Christian Benteke is set to have talks with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp about his future at Anfield.

Benteke was signed from Aston Villa for £32.5m last summer by former boss Brendan Rodgers but since Klopp's arrival in October he has been a peripheral figure, used mainly off the bench.

He started just three Premier League games this season, despite fellow strikers Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge being injured for much of the campaign.

West Ham have been linked with a summer move for Benteke but the Belgium striker is hoping to speak to Klopp before he heads off to , to establish if he is part of the German's plans for next season.

Asked if he is happy to stay at Anfield and fight for his place, he said: "Of course, I signed for five years. I didn't sign for one year.

"But now I must speak with the manager and see his plan for next season.

"My first season wasn't easy but I keep going. I never doubt myself. I am going now to focus on the Euros and we will see next season."

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke says he will have to consider leaving the club if manager Jurgen Klopp continues to leave him out next season.

Benteke, 25, was signed by former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers for £32.5m, but started just eight league games after German Klopp was appointed in October.

"I still have a contract at Liverpool and I'd like to stay there, if I remain in the coach's plans," he said.

"If that's not the case, it will become difficult to stay."

The Belgium striker, who is currently preparing for Euro 2016 in France, added: "When Klopp arrived I saw that I wasn't in his plans. That was frustrating because I knew that during my first season at Aston Villa he wanted me.

"But we had several discussions together - I respect and I understand his decisions. I'll think about if after the Euros."

Liverpool have told Crystal Palace they will have to pay £30 million for Christian Benteke.

Alan Pardew is interested in the Belgian striker, who has failed to impress manager Jurgen Klopp since the German replaced Brendan Rodgers.

But the Merseysiders have slapped down any prospect of letting Benteke leave on the cheap and are determined to recoup most of what they paid Aston Villa a year ago.

Liverpool have noted how numerous Premier League clubs believe the fact Benteke is out of favour will ensure he will be sold for a bargain price

However, Fenway Sports Group are adamant they have no compulsion to sell below the going rate. They have seen some of the extraordinary prices quoted for English-based players during the course of the summer and won’t be trampled on in the transfer market.

The impact of the lucrative Premier League TV rights deal is inflating prices, with many clubs feeling emboldened enough to overrate their talent in the knowledge the bids will come.

Back-up players desperate for a move and hoping clubs will reduce asking prices to get them off the payroll also seem to be in for a rude awakening. In Benteke’s case, it seems Liverpool would rather keep him for the time-being than let clubs pay less than his market value which they are adamant remains at £30 million.

Benteke has indicated he wants to stay and fight for his place but his prospects of starting matches are virtually non-existent next season unless Liverpool suffer an injury crisis.

Should Benteke decide he must move on to revive his career, he must hope his asking price is met.

Palace are the only side to register an interest so far, although West Ham have also been linked in the past.

Christian Benteke is edging closer to leaving Liverpool after holding positive talks with Crystal Palace.
The Belgian suffered a disappointing first season at Anfield following a £32.5million switch from Aston Villa last summer.
Benteke, currently at Euro 2016, is not in Jurgen Klopp’s plans going forward and realises he may need to leave to avoid his career stagnating.
Sportsmail understands the 25-year-old’s representatives have verbally agreed to personal terms in principle after discussions with Palace officials this week.
Palace are extremely keen to land Benteke, who was chased by several Premier League sides this time last year.
Liverpool want to recoup the majority of the fee they paid Villa and feel £30m is a fair price. Whether Palace are willing to go as high as that remains to be seen.
Benteke has four seasons remaining on his five-year contract at Merseyside but opportunities would be limited under Klopp, even more so after the £30m signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton.

Palace are ready to spend significantly this summer and tabled a bid of £31m for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi before he opted for Chelsea.
Andros Townsend was unveiled by Palace on Friday morning on the triggering of his £13m release clause at Newcastle after their relegation to the Championship.
Alan Pardew saw his side struggle for goals last season, with only West Brom and Villa scoring fewer than their 39 in the league.
The Eagles boss hopes Benteke recaptures the sort of form which made him one of the most feared target men in English football.

The 25-year old striker is at Euro 2016 with Belgium but has fallen out of favour at Liverpool since boss Jurgen Klopp took over last October.

The forward joined the Reds for £32.5m in July 2015 under former boss Brendan Rodgers and has scored 10 goals.

He has started only eight league games under Klopp and last month said: "I'd like to stay if I remain in the coach's plans. If not, it'll become difficult."

Palace, who completed the signings of England winger Andros Townsend from Newcastle and France international goalkeeper Steve Mandanda from Marseille on Friday, were also reportedly interested in Benteke's Belgium team-mate Michy Batshuayi.

But the 22-year-old forward has been linked with a £33m move to Chelsea.

Liverpool have reportedly rejected a £25million bid for Christian Benteke from Crystal Palace.

Press Association Sport understands the club are looking to recoup most of the £32.5million they paid for the Belgium international just less than 12 months ago.

The Reds are looking for £30million plus add-ons for the 25-year-old, who has failed to impress manager Jurgen Klopp.

Benteke was the signing Klopp's predecessor Brendan Rodgers pushed for last summer but after scoring seven goals in his first nine appearances he managed just three in his last 23 matches.

The big striker fell out of favour at Anfield and even compatriot Divock Origi, aged 21 and in his first season in English football, was selected ahead of him as he struggled to meet the demands of Klopp's pressing game.

With Danny Ings back to full fitness after a cruciate knee ligament operation Benteke is even further down the pecking order with Daniel Sturridge, Origi, Ings and even attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino ahead of him in terms of selection.

Benteke, whose European Championships were ended by Wales on Friday night, will have extended summer leave as those players not involved in Euro 2016 or the Copa America return for pre-season training on Saturday.

However, his future appears to be away from Anfield.
