Transfer news: Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby interests Hamburg Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorf has confirmed the club’s interest in Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby. Holtby, 23, still has three years left on his contract
but has been a substitute in both Premier League games under Mauricio Pochettino so far this season and was unused in the 4-0 win over QPR.
The German playmaker also endured a difficult time at Spurs last season,
overlooked by both Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood and shipped out on loan to eventually relegated Fulham.
Beiersdorf is quoted in the German press as saying: “I’d be lying if I said we have nothing to do with Holtby.” Holtby’s agent told Sky Sports in July that Lewis was “optimistic about the future” under Pochettino, and he was used extensively in Spurs’ positive pre-season games.
His agent said: “He is happy at Tottenham and has a good feeling there. He wants to stay and prove himself and be part of the team.”
But it appears Holtby is behind the likes of Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli in the pecking order,
who all impressed as Spurs ran riot at White Hart Lane last weekend.
