Emanuele Giaccherini on verge of Sunderland exit Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini is on the verge of sealing a loan move to Italian side Bologna. The Black Cats have been in talks with the Serie A outfit for several weeks over a season-long loan switch for Giaccherini, with Dick Advocaat not convinced that the Italian international is suited to the Premier League. Giaccherini was tellingly not even on the bench for Sunderland’s draw at Aston Villa yesterday, with reports in Italy that he will undergo a medical with Bologna today.
It will bring an end to Giaccherini’s two-year stint at the Stadium of Light, which has been marked by both injury problems and only a sporadic impact to justify the £6.5million that Sunderland shelled out to land the ex-Juventus man. But Sunderland hope that the 30-year-old will not be the last player to leave the club before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
As the Echo reported yesterday, Sunderland are desperate to shift out the likes of Will Buckley, Liam Bridcutt, Charis Mavrias and Valentin Roberge, who have no place in Dick Advocaat’s plans.
Advocaat said: “We have to get rid of some players, with all respect to them. Some managers like certain players and others don’t.”
