Nicolas Anelka claims he has quit West Brom.

Anelka was recently given a five-match suspension by the Football Association for his controversial 'quenelle' gesture.

And on Friday afternoon the Frenchman announced that he was told he could return to the West Brom 'group' only under certain conditions

which he could not accept, and he has therefore released himself from his contract.

Anelka sent three tweets, in French. One said that he has to leave the Hawthorns because he wishes to "protect" his "integrity."

The gesture is considered anti-Semitic, particularly in France.

Anelka insisted he is not racist, and that the gesture is anti-Establishment, not anti-Semitic. The gesture was first performed by a French comedian -

and friend of Anelka - Dieudonne, who has several convictions for anti-Semitism.

Anelka was charged by the FA with misconduct, found guilty after a two-day hearing at the end of February and handed a five-match ban.

West Brom fined him £80,000 and he was ordered to complete a compulsory education course.

Baggies give striker 14 days’ notice of termination as required under his contract

FURTHER to the statement issued earlier this evening, the Club notes Nicolas Anelka is unwilling to agree to the conditions set by it which may have enabled his suspension to be lifted and for him to resume training.

These conditions were, firstly, that the Club required Nicolas Anelka to apologise to it, its supporters, sponsors and the wider community for the impact and consequences of his gesture made on December 28 and secondly, that he accept a substantial fine.

Nicolas Anelka’s purported termination of his Premier League contract this evening via Social Media was invalid as this was not conducted under the correct legal process as required by his contract.

The Club considers the conduct of Nicolas Anelka on December 28, coupled with his purported termination on Social Media this evening, to be gross misconduct.

As a result the Club has tonight written to Nicolas Anelka giving him 14 days’ notice of termination as required under his contract.

WBA Club statement:

The Club confirms it has been continuing discussions with Nicolas Anelka and his advisers as part of its own internal enquiry into the gesture he made after scoring against West Ham United on December 28.

Following the conclusion of the FA’s enquiry into the same incident, the Club had hoped to conclude its own investigations next week.

The Club notes Nicolas Anelka’s comments on Twitter and Facebook this evening (Friday). However, the club has received nothing formally regarding the termination of Nicolas Anelka’s contract from either him or his advisers.

The Club regards the release of such a statement on Social Media as highly unprofessional and will make a further statement when appropriate.

西布朗要求安歷卡14天「分手通知」

【now.com體育】西布朗前鋒安歷卡在英國時間周五突然透過社交網絡單方面宣佈與球會解約，此舉受到西布朗抨擊，會方表明雙方未正式解約，
而其後再發聲明，要求安歷卡提出14天「分手通知」，事情發展真箇峰迴路轉。

西布朗針對安歷卡（Nicolas Anelka）的宣言，最初發表聲明回應，節錄內容如下：「經過足總就事件（安歷卡慶祝入球手勢）進行調查後，
會方希望能夠在下周就內部調查作出結論，會方得悉安歷卡在今夜透過twitter及facebook所發表的意見，但本會未就安歷卡解約一事，收到他或經理人的正式通知。
「會方視透過社交網絡發表此等消息，是一種非常不專業的行為，並會在適當的時候再進一步發表聲明。」不過，會方其後發表另一則措辭強硬的聲明，
列出雙方終止合約的條件：「跟進這夜較早前所發表的聲明，會方首先要求安歷卡向球迷、贊助商及廣大市民，就他於12月28日所作出的手勢道歉。
會方亦已去信予安歷卡，要求他提交14天解約通知書。」

安歷卡於去年12月在對韋斯咸的比賽中入球後，做出了疑似向納粹敬禮的反猶太主義手勢慶祝，上月被英格蘭足總判罰停賽5場。
他在周五在社交網站twitter宣佈與球會解約：「經過與球會討論後，我們決定終止彼此的合作關係。」
