Chelsea transfer news: Leicester's N'Golo Kante set to snub Arsenal and Man Utd to play under Antonio Conte

N’Golo Kante is poised to turn down a new contract at Leicester City and favours a move to Chelsea over his numerous summer options.

Midfielder Kante is emerging as one of Chelsea’s top targets after the Blues failed with two bids for Roma’s Radja Nainggolan.

Following his superb season in the Premier League and at Euro 2016 for hosts France, Leicester have offered Kante a new £100,000-a-week deal to stay with the champions.

But Kante is currently siding towards leaving the King Power Stadium, with Chelsea, Juventus, Manchester United and Arsenal battling for his signature.

Of the four clubs, Kante is believed to fancy the opportunity of working with Antonio Conte at Chelsea the most but he has not yet ruled out the possibility of going elsewhere.

Conte will start work as Chelsea’s new head coach immediately after the Euros and wants a midfielder who can get all over the pitch, which makes 25-year-old Kante the perfect option.

Kante has a £20million release clause in his Leicester contract, although Chelsea may yet have to pay over that figure to land him.

Despite the fact £20m triggers the clause, the terms of the agreement are believed to state that Leicester are only required to accept the highest bid over that figure.

Chelsea will, therefore, want to avoid sparking an auction which results in them paying well in excess of the release fee. It is for this reason Arsenal have been reluctant to formalise their interest with a bid.

Juve are likely to provide the strongest competition to Chelsea for Kante, but the player is expected to choose remaining in the Premier League over moving to Italy if it comes down to a straight choice.

Other than Kante, Chelsea are looking at Nainggolan’s Belgium team-mate Axel Witsel but it is the Frenchman who the club will first pursue.

Chelsea move quickly to formalise interest in N’Golo Kante amid interest from Shanghai SIPG

Chelsea have moved swiftly to open talks over signing midfielder N’Golo Kante as Antonio Conte attempts to shape his squad for the forthcoming season.

Barely 24 hours after Kante’s Euro 2016 campaign came to an end with France’s final defeat to Portugal, Chelsea formalised their interest in the player in the hope of concluding a deal.

But the Blues are aware that triggering Kante’s £20million release clause may not be enough to land the Leicester City star.

Chelsea are braced for the fact they made need to pay more than £20m because Kante’s clause still allows Leicester to sell to the highest bidder and they have already received a £35m offer from Chinese club Shanghai SIPG.

Kante is not interested in joining Shanghai and has set his heart on a move to Stamford Bridge, which means Chelsea will now have to negotiate a fee with Premier League champions after activating his clause. It is not anticipated they will have to go as high as £35m.

The 25-year-old has turned down a new £100,000-a-week contract at Leicester and Chelsea are hopeful they can now reach an agreement for the man widely regarded as the player of last season.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Juventus have all shown an interest in Kante, but Chelsea have emerged as favourites for his signature.

New Chelsea head coach Conte is keen to add energy to his midfield and has seen more than one bid rejected for Roma’s Radja Nainggolan before moving for Kante.

Chelsea have made a £29 million bid for Leicester’s France international midfielder, N’Golo Kanté, and want to push the deal forward this weekend.

Antonio Conte, the new Chelsea manager, has made his move for the player, with a formal offer being considered by the Premier League champions.

Leicester’s hierarchy were discussing Chelsea’s bid in Austria on Wednesday night yet remain hopeful of persuading the 25-year-old to stay for at least another season.

Kanté has already turned down one contract proposal since the end of last season but Leicester are prepared to make another improved offer in a bid to keep him at the King Power Stadium. The new offer will make him the club’s best-paid player and is expected to be worth over £100,000 a week.

Chelsea, however, are hopeful of receiving a positive answer to their bid over the weekend and are keen to have Kanté on board before they fly to the United States for their pre-season tour.

Their bid to sign him is also complicated by interest from Chinese club Shanghai SIPG, while Leicester have adopted an aggressive stance on keeping a player they signed from Caen for £5.6 m  last year.

Conte will be officially unveiled   at Stamford Bridge today and is stepping up his bid to make squad reinforcements after only signing striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille  so far this summer.
