http://www.touchlinetalk.com/wenger-ready-to-launch-38m-bid/63708/Arsene Wenger is considering placing a bid of £38million for Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil, according to The Sun.
The Arsenal manager is under increased pressure to spend this summer, and with less than a week left, he has turned his attention to the German international, the newspaper claims.
Bale arrival
At 24-years-old, he has been at the centre of Madrid’s midfield for the past two years, but questions have been raised over his future at the Bernabeu due to the potential arrival of Gareth Bale.
The Welshman has been recently spotted in Spain, according to the newspaper rumoured to be negotiating terms with ‘Los Blancos’, with an announcement of the deal potentially imminent.
The Spurs player is likely to push the former Werder Bremen player further down the pecking order.
Team-mate
The Gunners are also interested in Ozil’s team-mate, Angel Di Maria, the newspaper claims. Even though a deal has apparently been struck, the Argentine is not willing to join the North London team, the report adds.
Wenger has missed out on a number of targets this summer, the paper claims, including Gonzalo Higuain, Steven Jovetic, Luis Suarez, and now Karim Benzema.
His only summer signing so far has been Yaya Sanago on a free transfer from Auxerre, who has been given little opportunity to show fans what he can do.
Wenger has also accused the media of “brainwashing” fans into thinking there is a crisis at the Emirates, the paper states, even though their victory at Craven Cottage has begun to convince fans otherwise.
Having thrashed Fenerbahce 3-0 last Wednesday, Arsenal are fairly sure that they can offer Champions League football to any potential targets.
The Frenchman seems determined more than ever to sign real quality, and is willing to splash the cash for this proven star.
