KIERON DYER HAS CONFIRMED HIS RETIREMENT FROM FOOTBALLFormer England midfielder Kieron Dyer has announced his retirement from football.
Dyer represented England at U18, U20 and Under-21 level before making his debut for the senior side in a 6-0 victory against Luxembourg in a Euro 2000 qualifier in September 1999.
He went on to make 33 appearances for the Three Lions, and was included in both the squads for the World Cup 2002 and Euro 2004.
Dyer began his career at home town club Ipswich before a big-money move to Newcastle. After a torrid time with injuries, he signed for West Ham United and later represented Queens Park Rangers and Ipswich for a second time, before finishing his career at Championship side Middlesbrough last season.
The 34-year-old confirmed: “I’m done now, I’m content and that’s it. I don’t want to move away any more, I just want to spend quality time with my kids.
“Since I went up to Newcastle, I’ve been all over the country and I haven’t really had too much quality time with my kids and now I feel that it’s the perfect time.”
The Daily Mail reported that Dyer is currently back at Portman Road helping his mentor Bryan Klug, the head of Ipswich’s academy, with coaching some of the club’s youngsters.
