De Rossi not included in Roma's summer training camp squad... as Chelsea set sights on £11m man


Chelsea target Daniele De Rossi has not been included in the squad for Roma's summer training camp in Riscone.
The combative midfielder played for Italy at the Confederations Cup and is set for an extended break after the tournament.
De Rossi, 29, is likely to cost the Blues around £11million to procure and he would take Oriol Romeu's place in the squad.



Not included: Daniele De Rossi was not in the squad for Roma's pre-season training



On the ball: De Rossi is a fierce defensive midfielder and good in the air


The Spaniard has been sent on loan to Valencia for a year, and, with John Obi Mikel linked with a Stamford Bridge exit too, Jose Mourinho needs another midfielder.
Brazilian defender Wallace, who has just joined Chelsea, could also move on loan to Roma as part of the potential De Rossi deal.
Chelsea have already signed Andre Schurrle, Marko Van Ginkel and Mark Schwarzer this season.

Roma coach Rudi Garcia insists he wants to keep midfielder Daniele De Rossi at the club.

De Rossi has been linked with a move away from the Stadio Olimpico with Chelsea reportedly keen on the 29-year-old Italy international.

But when asked about the star's future, Garcia told reporters: "He is a great player and surely it's better to have him with us than to see him leave."

Garcia appeared more relaxed about the future of Pablo Osvaldo and Marquinhos, adding: "They are still with us, we would like to keep the best players. But if they were to leave, we will replace them.

One player who will be joining Roma is goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski after the 22-year-old passed a medical and signed a contract with the Serie A side on Friday.

Skorupski has played over 50 games in the Polish Ekstraklasa for Gornik Zabrze, gaining himself a reputation as a solid and promising goalkeeper.

Coach hopes talismanic midfielder will stick around.

Roma coach Rudi Garcia has reiterated his desire to see star midfielder Daniele De Rossi stay at the club this summer amidst heavy interest from elsewhere, Sky Sports reports.
The 29-year-old Italian international has been linked with a switch to Chelsea over the recent weeks and they have been tipped to make a big money big at some point in the near future.
De Rossi finished the 2012-13 season with 29 appearances in all competitions but was often dropped and criticised by then coach Zdenek Zeman, causing him to reassess his options and consider a move away from the side where he has spent his entire career.
Breaking into the Roma side for the first time back in 2001-02, he has gone on to make 418 appearances for the capital side, scoring 47 goals in the process. He has played in almost every position for the club during this time and often takes over the captains armband when iconic striker Francesco Totti is missing.
However, Rudi Garcia has admitted that he doesn’t want to lose the influential midfielder by saying: ”He is a great player and surely it’s better to have him with us than to see him leave.”
Chelsea are thought to be returning with an improved offer from their initial £11 million bid later this week.
