Hull City have made a bid to sign Sunderland striker Danny Graham on a season-long loan.
Tigers boss Steve Bruce is keen to strengthen his attacking optionsready for the club's return to the Premier League, but has been knockedback by several potential targets.
The former Sunderland chief has now turned his sights to Graham, andHull are understood to have contacted the Black Cats within the last 48hours to enquire about a loan deal.
And, with Sunderland head coach Paolo Di Canio having decided thatGraham can leave, talks are believed to be at an advanced stage.
Hull today set off for a pre-season trip to Portugal but Bruceconfirmed that Graham is a target following his side's friendly win atNorth Ferriby last night, although he tried to play down his interest.
“There's lots and lots of players and it's always wrong for me totalk about them, but [Graham] is someone where there's been a bit ofinterest,” he said.
“He hasn't had the best of times in the north-east but he's a very,very good player. Whether it's possible, who knows? It's something thatwe're looking at but we haven't done anything just yet.”
Gateshead-born Graham has failed to make an impact on Wearside sincejoining the club from Swansea City in a £5m deal in January.
He was then-boss Martin O'Neill's final signing, but has failed to open his goalscoring account in 13 appearances.
And, with Di Canio now keen to do things his way, the Black Cats willlet the 27-year-old former Middlesbrough and Watford frontman move on –preferably permanently but, failing that, on loan.

DANNY Graham could complete a loan move to Hull City today after leaving Sunderland’s training camp in Italy.

The 27-year-old striker returned home yesterday amid talk of him joining the Tigers after an unsuccessful spell on Wearside.

And the fact he has been allowed to return to England instead of continuing on with the Black Cats’ squad to compete in the Barclays Asia Trophy, tells its own story.

The Tynesider joined Sunderland from Swansea in January in a £5m deal with the club paying a hefty salary for a striker Martin O’Neill believed would fire Sunderland away from the relegation zone.

In the event, he failed to score in 13 games and despite Paolo Di Canio praising Graham’s competitive qualities and backing him to get goals, the head coach is ready to offload the player and look to replace him with another forward next season.

Hull boss Steve Bruce admitted his interest in the Sunderland forward earlier this week after news leaked out in Hull.

He described Graham as a “very good player” and hopes to sort out a season-long loan deal.

“There’s lots and lots of players and it’s always wrong for me to talk about them, but Graham is someone where there’s been a bit of interest,” he said.

“He hasn’t had the best of times in the North East but he’s a very, very good player. Whether it’s possible, who knows?

“It’s something that we’re looking at but we haven’t done anything just yet.”

That looks about to change now that Graham has been allowed to leave the Black Cats’ Italian training camp.

Negotiations will have to be held over the terms of the loan with Hull likely to insist they only pay a portion – a significant one – of the striker’s wages.

And Graham, who was successful at Swansea before drawing a blank at Sunderland, is likely to welcome a fresh start and the chance to relaunch his Premier League career.

Striker arrives on a one-year loan deal from Sunderland....

The Tigers have signed striker Danny Graham on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland.

27-year-old Graham joins the Tigers having spent the last two seasons playing in the Barclays Premier League. He netted 12 times for Swansea City during their first campaign in the top flight in 2011/12 and added a further three goals in 2012/13 before moving to Sunderland.

Graham has also previously played for Middlesbrough, Carlisle and Watford.
