Everton in Bid for Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand is attracting interest from fellow Premier League side Everton - following reports of Manchester United stepping up their bid to sign Everton defender Leighton Baines.
Bertrand, 23, has been at Chelsea since 2006. However, to this day he’s been forced to play second-fiddle to left-back Ashley Cole, who has been at the club for the same amount of time.
Following a series of season-long loan spells to Bournemouth, Oldham Athletic, Norwich City, Reading, and Nottingham Forest, Bertrand finally made his Premier League for Chelsea in 2011.
He has made 27 Premier League appearances in total for the London side, and is reportedly keen on searching for first-team football next season.
Everton left-back Leighton Baines has had a £12M bid rejected from Manchester United, but is expected to leave when the Premier League champions make an improved offer - said to be around £16M. Should Baines leave, Bertrand could well be brought in as his replacement.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez is said to have long admired Bertrand, and regards him as a viable replacement.
Chelsea have slapped a £5M price tag on Bertrand, which will be easily affordable should Everton cash in on Leighton Baines this summer.
