. . . Swans secure signing of England international Shelvey
Swansea City have made their fifth majorsigning of the summer after completing a £5million deal for Liverpool’sEngland international Jonjo Shelvey.
The21-year-old arrived for talks at the Liberty this afternoon beforeagreeing a four-year deal with the Capital One Cup holders.
Thefee for Shelvey, who will join up with the Swans squad during thepre-season tour of Holland, also includes potential add-ons on top ofthe transfer fee.
Shelvey joins the likes ofSpanish trio Jordi Amat, Jose Canas and Alejandro Pozuelo along withJonathan de Guzman – who has returned on loan – as the new arrivals inMichael Laudrup’s squad.
Shelvey spent part of his youth career at Arsenal and West Ham before his move to Charlton.
He spent three seasons at The Valley, making his debut as a 16-year-old, which saw him become the Addicks’ youngest player.
In just his third appearance for the club, he started the opening 2-0 win over the Swans in the Championship.
Shelvey’s performances with Charlton saw him attract the eye of Liverpool, who took him to Anfield for £1.7million.
Hemade 21 appearances in all competitions during his first season withthe Reds, and then spent time on loan with Blackpool – scoring six goalsin ten games – during the 2011-12 campaign before ending the seasonback at Liverpool by starting in the 1-0 at the Liberty on the finalday.
Last season, he made 32 appearances under Brendan Rodgers which included scoring four goals in ten Europa League appearances.
Hisform on the domestic and European scene earned him internationalrecognition – winning his first England cap in a World Cup qualifieragainst San Marino at Wembley last October before featuring for theUnder-21s in the European Championships this summer.
