City are readying themselves for their return to England's top-flight and Bruce sees signing a striker as a priority.
And he has been alerted to Mboyo, who has scored an impressive 36 goals in 77 league matches since joining Gent in 2011.
The Belgium international is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League, but Gent are working hard to keep him.
Mboyo, 26, is valued at around £3m and has a contract until 2015 - and talks are planned to extend that.
