Watford and Newcastle are still interested in Tottenham winger Andros Townsend.

Sky Sports News HQ understands there is still hope talks between Newcastle and Spurs can be revived.

Newcastle have already had a loan offer and a £10.5million bid rejected, with the stumbling block still believed to be Tottenham's £14million asking price.

It seems a compromise will be required if any deal is to go through, but there is every chance this will not be resolved until Deadline Day.

TOWNSEND FEE AGREED'

Newcastle are close to signing Andros Townsend from Tottenham after the clubs agreed a compromise over the fee for the England winger, according to The Guardian.

Sky sources revealed earlier today that Newcastle, along with Watford, were still interested in Townsend but were struggling to match Spurs’ valuation, believed to be £14million.

However, the Guardian report Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has intervened to request his club accept Newcastle’s lower bid – understood to be somewhere in the middle of the two clubs’ valuations.

The news has now left the door open for Townsend to finally complete his move away from White Hart Lane, with the 24-year-old expected to finalise his move to the North East in the next 48 hours.

NEWCASTLE are closing in on the signing of Andros Townsend after agreeing a fee with Tottenham.

Townsend is desperate to quit Spurs after struggling to get a game under Mauricio Pochettino.

He still harbours hopes of playing for England this summer and a move to Newcastle would give him a platform to perform ahead of Roy Hodgson's squad selection.

Express Sport understands a £10.5m fee was lodged this afternoon - and it has now been accepted.

The swoop will be a personal triumph for head coach Steve McClaren who has repeatedly urged the club to buy British.

His arrival would take Newcastle’s spending this month to almost £30m following the signings of Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet.

Andros Townsend: Newcastle agree fee with Tottenham

Newcastle have agreed a fee, believed to be about £12m, to sign Tottenham's England winger Andros Townsend.
The 24-year-old has made just three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.
Townsend - who has played 10 times for England - was dropped for a Europa League match in November after a row with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner.
Newcastle have already signed midfielders Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet in this transfer window.
Townsend joined the Tottenham academy aged eight but did not become a first-team regular until the start of the 2013-14 season, by which time he had been sent out on nine separate loan spells.
This season, though, he has only started three games - two in the Europa League and the Capital One Cup defeat by Arsenal.
He appeared to confirm that he was leaving Tottenham on Tuesday afternoon, tweeting a picture of him leaving the club's training ground.
