Carl Jenkinson could be out for the rest of the season after West Ham confirmed the full-back had suffered a "significant" knee injury. Hammers co-owner David Sullivan's son Jack tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that Jenkinson's injury is "far more serious than we thought and he is out for the rest of the season". Jenkinson, who is on loan from Arsenal, lasted only 13 minutes of Saturday's 2-2 Premier League draw with Manchester City before limping off, to be replaced by Sam Byram on his Hammers debut following his move from Leeds last week.
A statement from West Ham later on Tuesday read:
"West Ham United can confirm that Carl Jenkinson injured his left knee during the early stages of Saturday's Premier League fixture with Manchester City. "Unfortunately, it appears that Carl has suffered a significant injury and he will be assessed by a specialist in central London on Wednesday. "A further update will be provided If the 23-year-old's injury is as serious as feared, it will take the Arsenal defender to the end of his loan spell at Upton Park and means he is unlikely to play for West Ham again.
He arrived in east London in the summer of 2014 following the arrival of Mathieu Debuchy at the Emirates.
He has made 23 appearances this season, scoring in successive games against Sunderland and Crystal Palace in October. when the full extent of the injury has been confirmed."
