Pep Guardiola tells Chelsea they need to buy 10 new playersBy Jack Wilson / Published 17th December 2015
Starsport exclusively revealed the Blues were close to Guardiola just minutes after news of Jose Mourinho’s sacking broke this afternoon. It’s understood a move to employ the Spaniard is “90 per cent done”. But while Guardiola is keen on the Blues job, he has concerns over the players.
The Mail claim he’s even told Chelsea chiefs that he needs to bring in as many as TEN new signings. Guus Hiddink is set to step up and fill in as caretaker but Guardiola is the man who has been lined up as Mourinho's long-term replacement. Manchester United and City are desperate to bring the coveted boss in themselves but their chase is set to end in failure.
The 44-year-old Spaniard, whose three-year contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season, hinted to reporters last weekend that he could be on his way.
He joined Bayern in 2013 after leading Barcelona to 14 titles in four years, and is one of the most sought-after coaches in world football.
They are desperate for him to stay, having led the team to two consecutive Bundesliga titles and with the squad on target for an unprecedented fourth straight domestic crown.
But Chelsea are set to convince him to join with a mega-bucks package at Stamford Bridge.
