Sessegnon commits to CatsContract extension agreed to keep forward at Stadium of LightLast Updated: August 30, 2012 12:55pm
Sunderland forward Stephane Sessegnon has signed a contract extension to keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2015. The 28-year-old joined the Black Cats from Paris St Germain in January 2011, having previously spent time with Le Mans.
He has performed impressively since arriving in English football, making 58 appearances and netting 11 goals.
Sessegnon was also named the club's Player of the Season last term after contributing eight goals and posing a constant threat with his pace and dribbling ability.
The Benin international's fine form had seen him linked with a move, while Martin O'Neill admitted earlier in the summer he could not completely rule out a departure.
However, speculation over Sessegnon's future has now been brought to an end less than 48 hours before the end of the transfer window after he agreed a new long-term deal with Sunderland.
The extension is still subject to the player being granted an extension to his current work permit.
