The 38-year-old says he can no longer keep up with the pace and wants to dedicate more time with the youth academy.



Raúl González has informed Cosmos directors and coaching staff that he plans to hang up his boots next month, once the NASL season ends.
The player has been thinking over his decision for a while and apart from struggling to keep up with the pace with the league competition and daily training sessions,
the 38-year-old needs to be close to his family in Madrid for personal reasons.
He has a month to reach a definitive decision and there would be no problem if he finally decides to rescind his contract

Raúl joined Cosmos in December 2014 following a two-year stint with Al-Sadd.
It was a conscious decision to move to NASL, the equivalent to the second division and where the physical demands are not at the same level as MSL.
The madrileño’s arrival aroused passions at a club which aspires to return to the elite, both in terms of sporting achievement and a greater presence in the public eye. Raúl has certainly helped them on their way – in June the club were crowned champions of the NASL Spring season and are currently playing the second phase, which reaches its conclusion on 31 October. Cosmos are guaranteed a place in the Play-Offs for the league title which will be contested in November.

Raúl is an idol with fans but has left slip in various conversations that he is tired and cannot envisage playing another season in official competition.
Curiously, it is the high rhythm of the team’s training sessions which Raúl has most problems keeping up with, rather than matches which he enjoys as much as ever.

Cosmos know that they are powerless to stop the player should he decide to hang up his boots for good but they are keen to see him stay on to continue supervising the new youth academy.
Raúl has one month to think it through but it seems inevitable that he will finally announce that his playing days are over.

西班牙《阿斯報》周三獨家披露，目前效力紐約宇宙隊的前國腳魯爾（Raul），由於思念在馬德里的家人，已經通知會方在11月球季結束後將高掛球靴。

38歲的魯爾2014年10月加盟宇宙隊，但經過近1年的發展，雖然妻子和孩子都適應紐約的生活，但他因思念馬德里的家人，決定提前解約。

宇宙隊在魯爾助陣下，在本季大聯盟聯賽成績不俗，目前18戰得30分排第3位，順利晉級季後賽，季後賽決賽將在11月上演，屆時或成為他的告別作。

魯爾今季射入7球，是陣中的次席射手，但同時還貢獻了3次助攻。

據悉，魯爾除了要應付球隊的比賽外，還定期飛回馬德里探望老邁的父母，這使他感到疲於奔命，經過1個月的考慮，終於決定退出職業球員生涯。

Former Real Madrid and Spain striker Raul will retire from football next month after finishing the current season with the New York Cosmos.

The 38-year-old joined the Cosmos of the North American Soccer League, a level below Major League Soccer, in December but has decided to call it a day after a single campaign.

"When I signed for the New York Cosmos in December, I said I would evaluate how I felt towards the end of the year and assess whether I would continue to play," Raul said.

"My decision is to retire from playing at the end of this season. I am fully focused on finishing the season strong and helping the New York Cosmos win the NASL Championship. In the coming months I will decide the next step in my career.

"Playing soccer has been part of my life for so long and the decision to retire is not an easy one but I believe it is the right time.

"I'm thankful to everyone who has supported me throughout my career and I look forward to playing my final games with the New York Cosmos over the coming weeks."

Raul enjoyed a glittering career in his homeland, spending 16 years with Madrid during which time he won six La Liga, three Champions League and six Spanish Super Cup titles.

Spells with Schalke and Qatari-based Al-Sadd Sports Club then followed for Raul, who also scored 44 goals in 102 appearances for Spain.

Cosmos head coach, Giovanni Savarese, said: "Raul is one of the world's most iconic players. I knew when we signed him what he would bring on pitch but his knowledge, passion, professionalism and commitment has exceeded my expectations.

"In less than a year, Raul has become a big part of the team and he will always remain part of the Cosmos family."

The Cosmos have already punched their ticket to the NASL post-season by finishing top of the standings in the spring season. They sit third in the fall season standings and top in the combined standings.

早在10月中，紐約宇宙隊透過其官方社交網站Twitter向外宣佈，陣中前西班牙國腳魯爾（Raul）決定在11月球季結束後將高掛球靴。不過魯爾的最後一仗需押後，事關紐約宇宙隊成功打入北美足球聯賽季後賽決賽，魯爾更在比賽中攻入奠定性的一球。

紐約宇宙在季後賽準決賽迎戰勞德代爾堡前鋒，前鋒在16分鐘曾出現射門中柱，喚醒了場內的宇宙球員，特別是兩名西班牙球星辛拿和魯爾。辛拿先在37分鐘主射罰球後，對手解圍不遠下被宇宙把握成功，追回1:1比分完上半場。魯爾在下半場亮相，更成為晉級英雄，接應傳送下成功射破對方門將的十字關，反超前至2:1至完場，成功躋身北美足球聯賽季後賽決賽，對手將會是渥太華暴怒或明尼蘇達聯的勝方。

賽後入波功臣之一的魯爾，認為以一場決賽結束其職業生涯，是其夢寐以求的事情，他更在賽後特意走到場邊，與一眾球迷打成一片，與多名球迷激掌及送上親筆簽名。

早在10月中，紐約宇宙隊透過其官方社交網站Twitter向外宣佈，陣中前西班牙國腳魯爾（Raul）決定在11月球季結束後將高掛球靴。不過魯爾的最後一仗因紐約宇宙隊成功打入北美足球聯賽季後賽決賽，並需要押後，而宇宙最終亦成功贏得北美足球聯賽冠軍，魯爾更在比賽中交出助攻。

美國時間周六舉行的決賽，由紐約宇宙對渥太華暴怒，魯爾更以正選姿態亮相。開賽8分鐘施拿連奴先首開紀錄，並以1球優勢回到更衣室。下半場施拿連奴一開波就有拉開紀錄機會，可惜未能把握，戰至71分鐘就被暴怒扳平。不過宇宙用了1分鐘就再度領先，更在85分鐘憑魯爾交出助攻予施拿連奴，攻入個人今戰第2球，成功拉開優勢至3:1。暴怒補時階段再入一球，但為時已晚，宇宙最終以3:2贏波，成功贏得北美足球聯賽冠軍，亦令魯爾以冠軍錦標完結自己的職業生涯，光榮引退。

賽後整隊上下即時換上冠軍T恤，擁至場內慶祝，魯爾更被隊友拋上半空慶祝一番。
