Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia undergoes surgery Antonio Valencia has undergone an surgery on his foot following the injury he endured in last month’s derby. The Manchester United winger Tweeted a picture from his hospital bed, with the message: “Thank God came out well from the operation. Now think about my recovery.” Valencia hasn’t played since the goalless draw against Manchester City.
He was substituted after 81 minutes - but United manager Louis van Gaal did not reveal the extent of the injury.
United’s manager said at the time: “He had a kick on his foot in the first half and then I let Darmian warm up on the touchline.
“But then he played further. However, at the end, he could not continue.”
In two pictures posted on Valencia's official Twitter page, he shows his left leg in bandages, with crutches by the side of his bed. The 30-year-old has been converted into a right back under Van Gaal and looked like establishing himself ahead of Matteo Darmian before his injury. United have already endured a number of injuries in defence this season, with Phil Jones suffering a blood clot in the summer and Luke Shaw ruled out for at least six months with a double leg fracture.
Marcos Rojo has also spent time on the sidelines.
Yet Van Gaal’s side still boast the best defensive record in the Premier League, with just eight goals conceded in 12 games.
