Schalke coy on Podolski talk

Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has remained tight-lipped over claims his club are chasing Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski.

The German international has not started a competitive game for the Gunners this season, having sat on the bench in the encounters with Aston Villa and Fenerbahce. Now there is speculation surrounding Podolski's future at the Emirates and Schalke have been linked with bringing the 28-year-old back to the Bundesliga. Heldt would not elaborate on any move for Podolski, although the club are thought to be interested in the former Bayern Munich star. He told Bild: "There's nothing I can say now."

Arsenal at risk of losing Lukas Podolski as race for Karim Benzema hots up

ARSENAL look set to have to fight off interest from Schalke if they want to retain star striker Lukas Podolski.

That's according to German reports that have linked the Bundesliga outfit to an audacious bid for the 28-year-old.
Podolski only signed for the Gunners last season, being brought in as a replacement for Robin Van Persie.
But Schalke are now thought to be leading the way, after after manager Horst Heldt refused to deny the club were interested.
He said: "There's nothing I can say [on that subject now]."
Boss Arsene Wenger is known to be keen on signing another striker before the September 2nd transfer deadline.
And the Frenchman is now lining up a ￡40m move for Karim Benzema in the hopes Carlo Ancelotti will give the okay to let him leave the La Liga giants.
The Polish born German international already has to compete with Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, and started on the bench last night against Fenerbahce.

Arsene Wenger is keen on strengthening the teamIt follows comments made by Giroud concerning the north London team's frontline, calling for Wenger to bring in another forward.
"It's necessary for the club to recruit another striker," he said.
"Obviously I think about it a little bit. It may change the play one day, especially if it's a high-profile signing.
"It's useless lamenting this though. I know what I have to do and what I'm capable of.
