Premier League - Everton sell Billy, target Jelavic



Diniyar Bilyaletdinov has completed his move to Spartak Moscow, leaving Everton for an undisclosed fee after two-and-a-half years on Merseyside.

The Toffees accepted a bid for the 26-year-old Russia winger on Wednesday and he had travelled to his homeland to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.
He made 77 appearances for Everton, scoring nine goals, but failed to make himself a regular starter for David Moyes' side.

Moyes admitted the signing of Bilyaletdinov, who had made only seven starts this season, had not quite worked out as he had hoped.

"He was a great boy to work with, a really good professional," he told the club's website. "When he played he was totally committed and he did everything he could to succeed. We wish him well. It just didn't quite work and obviously we've decided to sell.

"It happens. You could probably ask every manager in the Premier League about players and I can think of some clubs you could ask about a lot of players but, yes, Bily's been in here and not quite reached what we wanted.
"But I couldn't fault anything that he did - he is a good lad."

Meanwhile, Everton have been in touch with Rangers regarding Nikica Jelavic but Press Association Sport understands that no official bid has yet been made.

The SPL champions have already rejected a £7million package from West Ham for the 26-year-old Croatia striker, who missed Saturday's 4-0 win over Hibernian at Ibrox with a virus.

The Ibrox club are bracing themselves for the Merseysiders to make an official offer later on Sunday night or on Monday morning for a player who also been linked with Liverpool and QPR.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has confirmed his interest in Bolton striker Kevin Davies.

Wanderers boss Owen Coyle had earlier revealed the Black Cats had made an enquiry over the 34-year-old, whose current contract expires at the end of the season.

Sunderland are yet to make a formal offer, but O'Neill admitted he could firm up his interest during the remaining two days of the winter transfer window after this afternoon's 1-1 FA Cup fourth round draw with Middlesbrough.

O'Neill said: "I did make an enquiry and Owen would obviously want to try to keep him. I may well follow that up."

Sunderland's need is pressing with loan signing Nicklas Bendtner expected to be out of action until the middle of next month with a broken nose.

However, Fraizer Campbell eased their worries to a degree when he scored against the Teessiders on his return to senior action after 17 months on the sidelines following two serious knee injuries.

Sky Sports understands Celtic are eyeing a move for Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt before the transfer window slams shut.

Hunt has struggled to hold down a regular place in Mick McCarthy's starting line-up this season and the news has alerted Celtic to his possible availability.

Republic of Ireland international Hunt has been left out of the Wolves starting line-up for their two most recent Premier League matches, a defeat by Chelsea and draw against Tottenham, where he came on as a second-half substitute.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon is thought to be an admirer of Hunt and he is now weighing up a move for the all-action winger as he looks to bolster his squad.

Former Reading man Hunt could be tempted by a move to Celtic as he looks for regular first-team football to boost his chances of breaking into the Ireland side for this summer's Euro 2012 finals.

Hunt has made 46 appearances for Wolves and scored seven goals since arriving from Hull in the summer of 2010.

Sky Sports sources understand that Fulham have made a bid for Wigan Athletic striker Hugo Rodallega.

The Colombian is out of contract in the summer and he admitted last week he was looking to leave.

Now Sky Sports understands that Fulham have made an approach and have offered cash plus a player, believed to be Andrew Johnson.

With West Brom and Queens Park Rangers also linked with the 26-year-old a deal before Tuesday's deadline looks a genuine possibility.

And Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has refused to rule out selling Rodallega, saying: "We are in a position where no-one is bigger than the football club.

"Whatever could happen over the next 48 hours will be in the best interest of Wigan.

"Every individual situation is going to be down to that measurement."

However, Martinez stressed that neither Victor Moses or James McCarthy would be allowed to leave.

"Victor Moses is not for sale. He is one of the biggest assets we have at the club," said the Spaniard.

"He is one of the players who represent Wigan [in terms of what the club stands for] as he is young with fantastic potential and has had great development in the last season or so.

"He is not on the market, he is not for sale and that is the end of the matter.

"Victor and James are the two younger players in this football club and it would be wrong for us to sell these assets.

"Obviously with other players, when you get into a position when your contract is short-term with the club it is a completely different situation."

Kevin De Bruyne is at Chelsea’s training ground this morning undergoing a medical as he completes a move from Genk, Goal.com can reveal.

The Stamford Bridge club have agreed a fee of £6.7 million with the Belgium outfit and he will then be loaned back to Genk for the rest of the season.

It is understood that the 20-year-old attacking midfielder will sign a five-and-a-half year contract with Chelsea.

De Bruyne will become the third Belgian youngster to join Chelsea in the last six months, following the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and De Bruyne’s former Genk team-mate Thibaut Courtois last summer.

The two clubs came to an agreement last night following weeks of negotiations and the winger flew into London in the last 24 hours to put the finishing touches to the move.

Andre Villas-Boas revealed last week that the pursuit of De Bruyne was being driven by others at Stamford Bridge as part of the club’s policy to target and recruit young players for the future.

“It’s not within my immediate projects. It’s a target that’s decided by the club, that I knew about for quite some time,” said Villas-Boas. “He was under the scrutiny of the club for some time, we’ve been following this player.

"Romelu Lukaku the same, and Petr Cech was the same when we arrived in 2004. In the sense that the club policy for the future, it’s the right thing [to buy him] and I’ll do everything in my power for him to reach maximum potential.”

DORTMUND'S BARRIOS IN FULHAM LINK

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed they still have business to do in the transfer window with reports claiming they are set to sell Lucas Barrios to Fulham.

The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under coach Jurgen Klopp and has not scored this season.

But the Paraguayan is a proven goalscorer with over 30-goals in his previous two season.

Now sources in German claim that Fulham are closing in on a deal for the striker, who will cost in excess of £7million.

Klopp did not confirm a deal with Fulham, but he did admit Dortmund were not finished with the window.

"We will have things left to do (until the end of the transfer window)," he told Ruhr Nachrichten.
