Exclusive: Spurs plot £8m raid for Blackburn stopper

Tottenham are set to raid Blackburn for giant centre-half Chris Samba in an £8million swoop.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been put on alert that owners Venky’s may sell a star in the window.

Rovers owners want to balance the books and give boss Steve Kean some ‘loose change’ for new signings. Samba – a mega Blackburn earner at around £60,000 a week – could now be sold.

Redknapp has been a fan of the 6ft 4in Congolese defender for years, but never been able to sign him because of his price and the cost of his wages.

However, Spurs are seeking a Champions League spot – and possibly the title – while Rovers are more vulnerable than ever to a serious offer.

Even Samba’s wages may not be a problem as Spurs look to make one crucial capture that would add muscle to their back line.

Redknapp, despite his assertion that Spurs won’t make a move in the window this month, has the money to make the move happen and sent his chief scout to see Samba in commanding form at Old Trafford.

Venky’s would take the cash as they fear the cost of relegation. Kean does not want to see Samba go, but won’t get the four signings he wants without it.

Stoke to sacrifice Pennant as race to sign Blackburn starlet Hoilett hots up

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 10:30 PM on 1st January 2012

Stoke are prepared to offload winger Jermaine Pennant as they set their sights on Blackburn Rovers' Junior Hoilett.

Pennant has been a success at the Britannia Stadium but Stoke need funds to help offset the cost of buying Hoilett who is valued at £8million despite being out of contract in the summer.

Pennant was dropped from Stoke's first team last month but denied rumours of a spat with manager Tony Pulis.

One in, one out: Stoke will let Jermaine Pennant (left) leave and sign Junior Hoilett

Blackburn are struggling to fund the transfers manager Steve Kean wants to help them stay up. It is understood all of their squad are available except those purchased in the summer.

Defender Chris Samba remains a target for QPR and Tottenham but Blackburn value him around £10m.

Stoke, meanwhile, are also keen on Birmingham's Liam Ridgewell and Bolton left-back Paul Robinson.

Meanwhile, Bolton want Real Madrid's young striker Jese Rodriguez, 18, on loan.

Chelsea Captain John Terry Handed £200k a Week Offer from Chinese Suitors

John Terry is a target for China’s top two clubs, who will offer him an escape route from the unsavoury race row overshadowing his season.

Shanghai Shenhua and Guangzhou Evergrande are prepared to provide the Chelsea and England skipper with a move abroad, away from the potential fallout following allegations that he racially abused QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

The Chinese are believed to be ready to offer Terry a loan or short-term deal on up to
£200,000 a week if he feels like getting away from it all for a while… provided Chelsea can be persuaded to let him go.

The money men behind China’s fast-emerging clubs have made Terry a wanted man as they seek to establish themselves as a world football force as well as an economic one.

Both Shanghai and Guangzhou would be prepared to pay Terry top money for him to take a ‘sabbatical’ from English football while the clamour over his court case dies down.

Chelsea’s Nicolas Anelka has already been lured to Shanghai on £175,000 a week –
the sort of weekly wage that most Chinese couldn’t earn in a lifetime.

Swansea have signed Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson on loan for the rest of the season, the German club have announced.

The goalscoring midfielder returns to England from German club Hoffenheim and links up again with Brendan Rodgers, who managed him during a six-month spell at Reading.

Sigurdsson cost Hoffenheim £6m when the Royals sold him in the summer of 2010, and the Bundesliga club's supporters voted him player of the season in his first year.

But injury disrupted his preparations for the current campaign, and the 22-year-old has struggled to hold down a first-team place since returning to fitness.

Hoffenheim sporting director Ernst Tanner said: "We hope Gylfi will get the necessary game time to recover his previous strength."

Alex McLeish has warned any potential suitors that Aston Villa have no intention of parting with Darren Bent.

The England international only moved to Villa Park in January 2011, with £24million required to lure him away from Sunderland.
He is, however, regarded as one of the most consistent goal-getters in the Premier League and any number of clubs would welcome him into their ranks.

Speculation has suggested that Liverpool may be tempted to make a move during the current transfer window, with Kenny Dalglish in the market for goals.

McLeish, though, has made it clear that Bent is going nowhere, with Villa determined to retain the services of their most potent attacking weapon.

He said: "Yes, I say that now. He won't be leaving."

Frustration

Bent has seen injuries restrict him to just 16 outings this season, while an ill-advised pre-Christmas shopping trip saw him make headlines for all of the wrong reasons.

The 27-year-old admits it has been a frustrating campaign for him on a personal level, but he has given no indication that he is looking to move on.

He said: "It has been a frustrating time for me with injuries but I am now going in the right direction.

"Long-term I don't think it was anything serious. I probably need to do a bit more work in the gym to get things stronger and just take it from there really.

"Hopefully that's the last of my injury problems and I can look forward to some more time on the pitch and scoring goals now."

Exclusive: Sunderland star is shock Arsenal target

Sunderland star Kieran Richardson has emerged as a shock target for Arsenal as he considers his Black Cats' future.

Midfielder Richardson, 27, did not feature for Martin O'Neill's side in their win over Man City on Sunday.

The London-born ace had a virus and has not trained recently but he is also believed to be keen on a return to the capital.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a fan of the former West Ham trainee who was snapped up by Manchester United as a kid.

Richardson has two goals this season and has been a regular in Sunderland's side.

But his potential sale would give new boss O'Neill funds for rebuilding.

Richardson has been at Sunderland since 2007 after joining from Man United for £5.5million.

Tottenham playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has ruled out leaving White Hart Lane during the January transfer window.

It had been suggested the Holland international could move on in the New Year with AC Milan leading the chase for his signature.

The 28-year-old has encountered the odd run-in with Harry Redknapp, but he insists everything is 'fine' with his manager.

The former Real Madrid and Hamburg man believes Redknapp is doing an amazing job at the helm.

Van der Vaart is aware of the rumours with Spurs flying high near the top of the table and he does not want to miss out on the title chase.

Rumours

"It's not true that I could be leaving in January," explained Van der Vaart. "Of course there are rumours when you are third in the table and you play good football.

"People are always going to look and they are interested in the players of Tottenham, but this season nobody wants to leave - we are close to something special.

"Of course I want to stay here. Everybody feels that we have a great team and it is really fun to play here - we have big players, experienced players and Harry is doing a great job.

"Sometimes you can have a little problem with the manager, but you talk to each other and everything is fine.

"Harry is doing an amazing job at Spurs and this season it feels that something more can happen."

Chelsea forward Gael Kakuta is close to a move to Dijon, according to the French club, but Marseille and Olympiakos are also interested.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Bolton, but he made just six appearances in all competitions for Owen Coyle's struggling club.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is again expected to send Kakuta, who joined Fulham in the last campaign, elsewhere in order for the youngster to build experience.

And Ligue 1 outfit Dijon appear to be leading the race for Chelsea's controversial 2007 signing, but they could yet be gazumped.

"We are in talks with Chelsea," Dijon manager Patrice Carteron told L'Equipe.

"I have the agreement of Villas-Boas, but six clubs are interested in the player, including Marseille and Olympiakos, which put more money on the table.

"But I am lucky to have convinced the player he was more interesting to come to Dijon."

Simon Jones is Sportsmail's man on the inside of all the major transfer moves this January.
His column, published every weekday, offers an insight into the deals which will be done and those that won't - and why.

Blackburn to Tottenham
THE INSIDER says: 4/5

Sportsmail revealed that Tottenham were ready to revive their interest in Samba once it became clear that their other prime defensive target Bolton’s Gary Cahill had chosen Chelsea. Manager Harry Redknapp likes the physical presence that Samba brings plus the good old fashioned goal threat from set pieces. QPR are also interested in Samba and the Congo international is ready to leave Blackburn despite their recent resurgence. The club needs to sell to fund rebuilding and Samba, Junior Hoilett and Steve Nzonzi are the prime candidates to bring in money. however, Blackburn wont sell cheaply and that could draw any deal out.

A 5/5-rating means The Insider reckons it's a done deal; 0/5 means The Insider has his mortgage on it not happening.

保頓否認斟森莫亞
Bolton boss Owen Coyle has played down talk linking him with a move for Fulham striker Bobby Zamora.

Reports have suggested Coyle was lining up a move for Zamora in this month's transfer window as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

Zamora's future at Fulham has been the subject of speculation for some time following rumours of an alleged bust-up with manager Martin Jol.

Coyle admits he is looking for reinforcements to help his side climb off the bottom of the table, but insists he has not spoken to Jol about Zamora, who scored the winning goal for Fulham in Monday's victory over Arsenal.

Chasing

"We are chasing one or two of our own targets because that is the way football works and we are trying to bring them in to help the squad," said Coyle.

"We have suffered injuries to top players from the start of the season. We are starting to get one or two back but there is no doubt that we need to get one or two in to help the squad we have to make sure we stay in the Premier League.

"Bobby Zamora is an outstanding footballer but I certainly have not had any dialogue with Martin Jol or any people at Fulham.

"You only had to look yesterday to see the qualities that Bobby Zamora has but there has been no interest from Bolton Wanderers."

Man City eye January move for Real Madrid defender Albiol

Manchester City are showing interest in Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol.

The Spain international can play central defence and defensive midfield and Roberto Mancini wants quality cover for Kolo and Yaya Toure during the African Nations Cup.

The 26-year-old is surplus to requirements at Real and wants to play to have a chance of making his country's European Championship squad. City have a good relationship with the Spaniards.

They are also hopeful of pushing through their proposed £5million deal for Real's 15-year-old Jose Angel Pozo.

Newcastle keeper weighing up Tigers switch

Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper is considering a loan move to npower Championship club Hull.

Manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that the 36-year-old, who had a spell at Brighton earlier this season, is wanted by the Tigers, but that no deal has yet been agreed.

Pardew said: "There has been a little bit of contact about Harps to Hull.

"We are looking at that and Harps is considering whether that's a possibility for him to get some games."

Dutchman Tim Krul has established himself as Newcastle's first-choice goalkeeper, to leave Harper, who spent many seasons as Shay Given's deputy on Tyneside, starved of action once again.

He has not made a senior appearance for the club this season and has found himself competing with summer signing Rob Elliot for a seat on the bench.

Pardew insisted there has been no contact with any club over midfielder Alan Smith amid reports he is wanted by Ipswich.

The 31-year-old, who joined Newcastle in a £6million move from Manchester United in August 2007, is out of contract at the end of the season.

FULHAM 'MAKE BID FOR MAXI LOPEZ'

Fulham have made an offer for Catania striker Maxi Lopez, according to the Italian club.

The Cottagers have scored just 22 goals in 20 Barclays Premier League games this season and England striker Bobby Zamora has been in and out of the side amid speculation about his relationship with manager Martin Jol.

Powerful Argentinian Maxi, 27, would provide Jol with a fresh option up front, and Catania sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco revealed Fulham's interest.

"On Maxi Lopez there are no developments as yet, but an offer has been received from Fulham and we are evaluating it," Lo Monaco told Radio Mana Mana.

"We are waiting to see what the Italian clubs will do.

"AC Milan are definitely out, while we will see what happens with Fiorentina. Lazio? I don't think they need Maxi."

Tottenham aim to hijack Newcastle's move for West Ham defender Tomkins

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 7:54 AM on 4th January 2012

Tottenham are considering a move for West Ham centre back James Tomkins.

The 22-year-old broke into the West Ham side in 2008 but has emerged this season as one of the club’s most important player with a string of consistent performances.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, who knows Tomkins well from his time at the club, has made two bids - both rejected - with the last offer thought to be around £2.5million.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce - who also wants to bring in Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong on loan - does not want to sell but also needs funds to bring in players such as Huddersfield’s Jordan Rhodes, Bristol City’s Nicky Maynard and Reading’s Jimmy Kebe.

Tottenham’s main target was Gary Cahill while Chris Samba may prove too expensive.
