QPR have made a £5m bid for Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba.

Manager Neil Warnock has made the 27-year-old Congolese his first permanent target of the January transfer window.

Warnock, backed by Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes, has promised signings to help QPR climb away from the Premier League relegation zone.

He signed Manchester United's Italian striker Federico Macheda on loan in midweek, but has admitted he needs to strengthen his defence.

Samba, who joined Rovers for £450,000 in 2007 from German side Hertha Berlin, has made 160 Premier League appearances, scoring 16 goals.

Warnock may have a fight on his hands to sign him as Tottenham Hotspur are also reported to be interested.

Blackburn have confirmed that assistant manager Paul Clement has left the club and is now expected to join Paris St Germain, to be reunited with his former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Spurs set sights on £15m Ganso as Redknapp lines up January reinforcements

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 10:19 AM on 6th January 2012

Tottenham are considering a move for Brazilian star Ganso to beef up their title charge.

Boss Harry Redknapp is keen on Blackburn duo Chris Samba and Junior Hoilett, but has also set his sights on a more ambitious target.

Ganso, who is rated at around £15million, is being chased by a host of top European clubs as he moves closer to leaving Santos.

His agent Teodoro Fonseca arrived in London on Thursday and is expected to meet with Spurs chiefs to discuss a switch to White Hart Lane in the transfer window.

Fonseca also represents Porto striker Hulk, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea but it’s understood that his high buy-out clause precludes a move.

Santos president Luis Oliveira has revealed that Ganso will be sold if 'the offer matches our expectations'.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who has won seven international caps and recently starred in the Club World Cup as they lost to Barcelona in the final, is rated highly in Brazil.

Redknapp, writing in his Sun column on Friday, said: 'The problem we have now when we look for players is that the better you get, the more difficult it is to find someone who will take you even higher.

'Believe me, there aren’t that many out there — but we won’t fall down on that score through a lack of looking.'

West Ham snub fresh £4m Newcastle offer for Tomkins

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 10:43 PM on 5th January 2012

Newcastle have had an improved £4million bid for West Ham defender James Tomkins rejected.

Manager Alan Pardew is eager to bolster his defence with Steven Taylor out for most of the season.

However, West Ham co-owner David Gold insists Tomkins is not for sale. He said: 'We want to keep James Tomkins, we really do want to keep him. I think it is fair to say he is not for sale.'

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce wants to retain Tomkins and bring in at least two players during the transfer window.

Huddersfield's Jordan Rhodes remains a priority and he has enquired about Tottenham's Sebastien Bassong while West Ham have also matched Leicester's offer for Reading winger Jimmy Kebe.

Allardyce said: 'Two quality players would be great.'

Liverpool take on Manchester City in race for £10m Birmingham starlet Redmond

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 10:22 AM on 6th January 2012

Liverpool are interested in Birmingham City winger Nathan Redmond.

The £10million-rated 17-year-old has two years left on his contract but has attracted strong attention from Manchester City.

Birmingham boss Chris Hughton is desperate to keep hold of Redmond but he will be tested if the Premier League big guns decide to throw their financial weight around.

The Reds have been keeping a close eye on Redmond's situation and made an enquiry in the summer.

He made his debut in the Carling Cup in 2010, becoming the club's second-youngest player behind Trevor Francis.

Both City and Liverpool are determined to snap up the best young talent from across the country.

Jordan Ibe, 16, chose Anfield ahead of the Etihad Stadium when he left Wycombe last month and Liverpool hope Redmond will take the same path.

Ferguson ramps up interest in Cuenca as Chelsea and Arsenal track Barcelona kid

By Ashley Gray

Last updated at 9:13 AM on 6th January 2012

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Barcelona starlet Isaac Cuenca after Sir Alex Ferguson's brother was spotted at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.

The Catalan press claims Martin Ferguson, who scouts for United, was watching Cuenca as Barca beat Osasuna 4-0 in the Spanish Cup.

Cuenca has also been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea as the European champions struggle to convince the 20-year-old to sign an extension to his contract, which ends in the summer.

The forward, who often plays on the right wing but started on the left against Osasuna, has signalled his intention to stay at the Nou Camp but is believed to be unhappy with the terms on the table.

Cuenca has muscled his way into the star-studded Barca team this season - mostly in cup competitions - scoring four goals in 13 appearances and impressing in the Champions League, in which he has three assists in three games.

Cuenca earns £65,000 a year at Barca but could earn the same amount in a fortnight if he accepts some of the offers on the table from abroad, with AC Milan also believed to be interested.

Meanwhile, Barca cashed in on an open training session on Thursday when almost 13,000 fans turned up to see them at the Miniestadi, which stands alongside the Nou Camp.

Members were given free entry, but an estimated 5,000 non-members paid £4.10 each to see their idols.

United striker Diouf keen on chance to impress at Wigan

By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 10:41 PM on 5th January 2012

Wigan are looking to sign Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf on loan.

Manager Roberto Martinez is wary of losing Hugo Rodallega, with the Colombian out of contract in the summer.

Senegal forward Diouf has been limited to three League Cup appearances and has had temporary spells with Molde and Blackburn. He is hoping to emulate Danny Welbeck, who shone while at Sunderland last season and has since established himself in the United first team.

‘Wigan is an option and a good one. I want to go and play week in, week out and try to impress Sir Alex,’ said Diouf, 24.

‘If I can finish the season strongly I can challenge next season like Danny has done. Wigan could be key for me.’

REPORT: FULHAM REJECT QPR'S JOHNSON BID

Fulham have rejected an offer from QPR for Andrew Johnson, Press Association Sport understands.

The 30-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and he has been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage during the January transfer window.

It is understood three clubs are interested in Johnson, but Fulham have rejected the only firm offer for the striker from QPR after it was deemed unacceptable.

Fulham manager Martin Jol was coy when questioned about the striker's future in this afternoon's press conference, but later confirmed to Fulham TV they have received an offer from the Rs.

"What's the point for us, for Fulham, for my club to sell a player for that sort of money?," he said.

"To get somebody will cost a lot more money so for me there is no problem. He is still under contract so we have to wait and see.

"Of course, if somebody wants him they have to pay a good transfer fee so we can buy another good player.

"But I told Andy what's the point of selling him for that kind of money to a rival.

"So I think it would not be best for us to sell him to whatever club for a lower fee.

"Of course he will stay here and if he is not signing he can leave at the end of the season."

如無意外, G.Cahill單交易最遲星期日搞掂

Gary Cahill could be a Chelsea player by Sunday, according to Bolton boss Owen Coyle.

The two clubs agreed a fee for the defender last week but personal were harder to sort out with Cahill reported to be asking for £120,000 a week.

Cahill stayed in the north west and played in crucial games against Wolves and Everton.

He will be rested for Saturday's FA Cup third-round trip to Macclesfield and, although Coyle was keen to stress that was not linked to the potential transfer, it appears almost certain Cahill's last act as a Bolton player will be the winning goal he scored at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Coyle said: 'Gary Cahill will be one of those to miss out on the game, and it's nothing to do with the continuing speculation regarding Chelsea. He's one of a number of players that probably needs to rest given the amount of games they've played.

'And moving on to that, my own opinion is I think there's a chance the deal can be concluded by the end of the week. That's where we're at but I'm not a party to any continued dialogue between Chelsea and Gary's representative.

'They were respectful of the other night, the fact we had a big game against Everton and that kept Gary focused and he showed his quality by doing that in the game.'

Coyle, meanwhile, again denied any other club have come in for Cahill after speculation Manchester United were interested.

The Scot said: 'When there's continued conjecture and everything that goes with it people are always going to throw up names. There hasn't been any dialogue between ourselves and Manchester United or anything like that.

'We as a football club agreed a deal with Chelsea Football Club and for me that's binding. The only way that will fall down is if the relevant parties don't agree. But my own feeling is I'm pretty sure they can get to a place that they're all happy.'
