R'S SWOOP FOR MALI MIDFIELDERPosted on: Mon 30 Jan 2012
QPR have swooped to bring Mali midfielder Samba Diakite to Loftus Road on loan.
The 23 year-old Nancy midfielder has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season, after Rangers beat off stiff competition from a number of top Clubs for his services.
Under the terms of the deal, Rangers have the option of exercising an agreement for a permanent transfer at the end of the 2011/12 campaign.
Diakite - who is currently on African Cup of Nations duty - flew in to London on Sunday afternoon to undergo a medical, before returning to the Gabon late last night to link up once again with his international team-mates.
The formalities of the loan deal were completed this lunchtime.
R's boss Mark Hughes believes the addition of the combative international will add greater depth to his midfield options, commenting: "Samba is a young player who has made an impression on French football.
"There has been a lot of interest in him from top Clubs in France so we have done really well to get him in.
"He is a good age, has got strength, power, can carry the ball and can score goals from midfield on occasions.
"He will give us more physical presence and athleticism in the middle of the park so he is going to be a good addition."
Diakite, who has made 15 Ligue 1 appearances for Nancy this season, said: "It is a dream to join a Premier League Club.
"The Board and the Manager have big ambitions to achieve and I am delighted to join a Club with such goals.
"I have always enjoyed watching English football and I can't wait to return from the African Cup of Nations and give my all for the Club.
"It is a very exciting move for me."

EXCLUSIVE: R'S SWOOP FOR ONUOHAPosted on: Thu 26 Jan 2012
Queens Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of versatile defender Nedum Onuoha.
The 25 year-old has penned a four-and-a-half year deal, after Rangers agreed an undisclosed fee with Manchester City for his services.
Onuoha - who has made 21 starts for England Under-21's - becomes Mark Hughes's second signing as QPR boss, following the recent addition of Taye Taiwo from AC Milan.
Hughes - who worked with Onuoha in his spell as City Manager - told
www.qpr.co.uk: "Nedum is a player I know very well.
"He did very well for me at Manchester City and played a number of games, probably more than under any other Manager.
"He is very versatile. He can play centre back or right back, and has good pace. He is a very good addition to the squad."
Hughes added: "It's important that we are able to attract good players here.
"Nedum had other options but his experience with myself and the other guys here was a big factor in why he has come to us. I am pleased about that."
Onuoha has clocked up 148 professional appearances to date, scoring six goals, including a memorable goal of the season contender against Chelsea whilst on loan at Sunderland last season.
He said: "This was the right time for me to join a Club like QPR.
"The Manager obviously played a massive factor in my decision to come here. I've worked with him before and he always wants players around him who are open and honest.
"He wouldn't have come here if he didn't believe that there was a squad of players here that can achieve the goals he has.
"The ambition of the owners was really appealing.
"This is my Club now and I'll give everything to help us succeed."
Onuoha could be in line to make his QPR debut in our FA Cup fourth round tie against Chelsea on Saturday.

EXCLUSIVE: R'S CLINCH CISSE COUPPosted on: Tue 31 Jan 2012
Queens Park Rangers Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of French international striker Djibril Cisse.
The 30 year-old front-man has penned a two-and-a-half year contract at Loftus Road, after Rangers agreed an undisclosed fee with Lazio for his services.
The arrival of the former Auxerre, Liverpool and Marseille hit-man represents a remarkable coup for the R's, who have already added international trio Taye Taiwo, Nedum Onuoha and Samba Diakite to their squad since Mark Hughes's appointment as Manager.
A regular scorer at all levels, Cisse has 220 senior domestic goals to his name, as well as nine for his native France.
Speaking exclusively to
www.qpr.co.uk, Hughes revealed his delight at the signing, commenting: "I rate Djibril very, very highly.
"I've watched him for many years and always been impressed by what he brings to the table.
"He's a huge threat to opposition's defences. He's got great pace, power and movement and that's something we will hopefully benefit from."
He added: "His goal record is there for everyone to see. He's scored goals wherever he's played. His record speaks for itself.
"He was desperate to come here once we showed our interest in him and we can't wait to get the best out of him."
Cisse, who is eligible to make his QPR debut against Aston Villa on Wednesday - subject to international clearance being received one hour before kick-off at Villa Park - revealed that his desire to link-up with Hughes was a big factor in his move to West London.
"QPR have a hugely ambitious project," he said.
"When I talked to the Manager, he spoke highly of the Club and where he wants to take it over the next few years. He wanted to sign me at Manchester City and now I am finally here with him at QPR.
"He wants to achieve big things here - that was all I needed to hear from him."
Cisse added: "I have unfinished business here in England.
"The English league is the best in the world. It is the league that suits me the most.
"I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to repay the Club's confidence in me, to get back to where I want to be as a player.
"I will always give one hundred per-cent and I can't wait to start playing games."
Cisse will wear the number 23 shirt at Loftus Road.

EXCLUSIVE: ZAMORA PENS DEALPosted on: Wed 01 Feb 2012
QPR have swooped late on deadline day to bring Bobby Zamora to Loftus Road from Fulham, after the two Clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for his services.
The England international striker has penned a two-and-a-half year deal in W12 and links up again with his former Cottagers boss Mark Hughes.
The 31 year-old's arrival follows hot on the heels of the addition of Djibril Cisse, but unlike his new team-mate, the Three Lions ace won't be eligible to feature against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
A delighted Hughes told
www.qpr.co.uk: "Bobby is a guy that makes things happen on the pitch, be it scoring goals or creating chances for others.
"He's a great foil for any team.
"We needed a player of his ilk at the Football Club and I couldn't be more delighted."
Hughes added: "He was the difference for us at Fulham last season.
"He came back from injury and he made such an impact in the second half of the campaign.
"He's got great power and pace and his technical ability is top class. He's got an excellent left foot."
Zamora, who made his England debut against Hungary in August 2010 and has seven goals to his name already this term, can't wait to kick-start the next chapter of his career at Loftus Road, commenting: "QPR are certainly a Club that are looking to go forward. That's something that I'm looking forward to being a part of.
"I got on really well with the Manager at Fulham. We all grew to like Mark. I think that will be the case here. He's looking to take the Club forward.
"I think this was the right time for me to have a fresh challenge. I had some great experiences at Fulham. Going to a European final is special.
"But this is a new challenge for myself and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it."
Zamora added: "The ambition of the Club was certainly a drawing factor as well.
"I've been lucky enough to speak to Tony (Fernandes) and Phil's (Beard) relayed a lot of messages about where this Club want to go.
"For me, it was quite an easy decision to be a part of this.
"The sky's the limit. We're looking to go forward and to grow and I want to be a part of that."
Zamora will wear squad number 52.
