Henderson has broken a bone in his right foot in a injury unrelated to his ongoing heel issues
Liverpool FC have suffered a crushing setback with the news that captain Jordan Henderson will be out for a further two months after breaking a bone in his right foot. The Reds midfielder was in contention to make his comeback from injury in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Norwich City at Anfield after missing the last four matches with a heel problem. However, those hopes have been dashed after Henderson was hurt on his return to full training at Melwood on Friday. A scan has confirmed fears that he had suffered a fracture. It’s completely unrelated to his previous injury with the break in his right foot, while the heel pain has been from his left.
The 25-year-old is scheduled to undergo minor surgery on Monday and Liverpool medical staff believe he will out for around six to eight weeks. It’s a devastating blow for the Reds skipper, who only returned to the UK on Wednesday after seeing American specialist Dr John Cozzarelli in New Jersey for treatment on the heel injury which has hampered him since pre-season.
Henderson underwent a series of injections which enabled him to return to training with Brendan Rodgers’ squad following the Europa League clash away to Bordeaux.
However, the captain will now miss a crucial run of fixtures as the Reds look to kick on after a disappointing start to the campaign.
