Alex Song being tracked by Chelsea and Manchester City



Chelsea and Manchester City have held talks about signing Alex Song from Barcelona, according to Sky sources.

The two Premier League heavyweights are particularly interested in Song because he qualifies as a home-grown player even though he played for Cameroon.

Song, who spent last year on loan at West Ham United, has two years left on his Barcelona contract.

West Ham are still hopeful of turning their loan agreement into a permanent transfer but Sky sources understand there is interest from several other clubs - including Chelsea and City.

The 27-year-old, who spent six seasons with Arsenal before moving to Catalonia three years ago, made 28 Premier League appearances for the Hammers last season.

Barcelona, who paid £15m for the player, are believed to be looking for a fee of around £5m from any transfer. His contract at the Nou Camp is believed to be worth £70,000-per-week.

West Ham are close to singing Alex Song on a permanent deal, according to Sky sources.

Song spent last season on loan at Upton Park from Barcelona and according to newspaper reports had attracted interest from other Premier League clubs.

But Sky sources suggest West Ham are leading the chase for the 27-year-old’s signature, and the player gave a hint of where his playing future would lie when posting an Instagram photo of himself in the gym wearing a pair of West Ham's new training shorts.

Song still has two years left on his Barcelona contract which is estimated to be worth £70,000 per week and the European champions are believed to be holding out for a fee of £5m for the Cameroon international.

Song spent six seasons with Arsenal before moving to Catalonia for £15m three years ago and made 28 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season.

Barcelona midfielder Alex Song is close to rejoining West Ham, Slaven Bilic has confirmed.

"Although I said I'm not going to discuss players from other teams, he is somewhere in between," Bilic said when asked about the prospect of Song moving to Upton Park on a permanent basis.

“He played here on loan last year and he's a little bit injured. I don't deny that he was a great player who did really well last year and I would like him to stay with us."

Slaven Bilic insists West Ham have not given up on completing a permanent deal for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

Former Arsenal star Song will miss three months with ankle trouble, leaving the ex-Cameroon midfielder haggling with the Hammers over the length of a permanent contract.

Song spent last season on loan at Upton Park, and Barcelona are ready to let him return on a free transfer - but new West Ham boss Bilic admitted talks are ongoing with the 27-year-old.

"We are in contact but it's not for the media yet," he said.
