ENRIQUE POWERLESS ON PEDRO

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is hopeful Spain international Pedro will stay at the club, but admits the presence of his ?30m release clause could leave the club powerless if the player wants out.

Speaking at a press conference, he said: "I do not want him to go, but there is a clause and if he wants to go.

“I hope that the relationship will not break, but I respect his decision. [Marc] Bartra is in a similar situation and he stayed.”

Barcelona expect Pedro, who has offers from other clubs, to travel to USA for pre-season tour. New board to decide on his future. [md]

Manchester United transfer news: Pedro targeted by Van Gaal



Manchester United are monitoring a potential swoop for Barcelona winger Pedro.

Reds boss Louis van Gaal is interested in the 27-year-old Spanish international who plays on the right and also as a forward.

With the Dutchman keeping an eye out on ways to improve United’s goal output next season Pedro’s 50-plus goals in just over 200 La Liga matches for Barca have caught Van Gaal’s eye.

Pedro, who was born in Tenerife, was promoted to Barcelona seniors in 2008 by the then Nou Camp manager Pep Guardiola and was a member of Spain’s 2010 World Cup winning squad and the successful Euro 2012 squad.

Although Pedro signed a new Barca contract in June keeping him at the club until 2019, he was only a late substitute two days later in Barcelona’s Champions League final win over Juventus in Berlin.

Now appears that he is having second thoughts over his future at the Catalan club and was reported this week saying at a Barcelona pre-season training camp.

“There are offers for me this summer and the situation is difficult. Any player wants to have playing time but it is getting more and more difficult with every season that passes,” he said.

“I would like to have finished my career here but we will have to see what happens.”

Both Premier League champions Chelsea and Liverpool are also understood to be tracking Pedro who could be prised away from the Nou Camp for around £20m.

Jose Mourinho wants one more signing but Pedro not a target

Jose Mourinho says Chelsea are looking to make one more signing this summer, but are not interested in Barcelona forward Pedro.

The Blues have bid for Everton defender John Stones but Sky sources understand their offer of £20m was rejected.

It is thought the Premier League champions will go back with an improved bid, and Mourinho has confirmed he wants to strengthen a backline that conceded the fewest goals in the league last season.

“I am looking for a defender to finish this balance in our squad and after that we are ready to answer anything that can happen to our players,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.

“If one of our players in a specific position wants to leave, we agree a deal for a player to leave and we have to answer immediately and bring in somebody else, because at the moment we have balance in the squad and we cannot lose that.”

As well as a defender, the Blues have been linked with a move for Pedro, who found his opportunities limited at Barcelona last season.

However, Mourinho said: “I have five wingers, if I lose one maybe I am interested in another but at this moment I have balance and quality and numbers.

“It’s a big challenge for us to go through the season with basically the same team and squad from last season.”

One player who will not be at Stamford Bridge next season is Mohamed Salah as he looks set to leave on loan.

The Egyptian joined in January 2014 but struggled to cement a first-team spot and spent last season with Fiorentina.

“I see his future elsewhere,” said Mourinho. “Either on loan or sold with an offer we are happy to accept. We have five wingers and it is better not to have Salah back.”

The Chelsea manager also responded to reports linking Filipe Luis with a return to Atletico Madrid, saying: “If they want him back they have to pay, they have to pay and then we have to react and go to the market to keep our balance.”
