Newcastle United await result of Davide Santon knee injury
Newcastle's new signing Davide Santon has undergone a scan on his right knee after suffering an injury during training on Thursday.
The full-back, 20, joined from Inter Milan for a reported £5m in August but has yet to make his first-team debut.
"He's having a scan on what looks like a cartilage injury," said Magpies manager Alan Pardew.
"It's an injury he's had previously, so I think it's very wise that the doctor and his team have had him scanned."
Newcastle told BBC Sport that they expect to discover the results of the assessment later today.
Pardew added: "I'm not actually sure of the mechanics of how it occurred. It's very important he has a good start at this football club, so we want to make sure he's 100%."
The Italian, an unused substitute during Monday's match against QPR, had put himself in contention for a role at Aston Villa on Saturday after playing 70 minutes of the reserves' 6-0 win over Norwich on Tuesday.
