Chelsea transfer news: Augsburg chairman refuses to cash in on the Abdul Rahman "millions"



Augsburg chairman Jonas Hoffman has warned Chelsea he’d rather watch defender Abdul Baba Rahman “with a beer in his hand” than cash in on the “Baba millions”.

The Ghanaian defender has emerged as the champion’s first choice replacement for Filipe Luis, who is expected to return to Atletico Madrid after a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are willing to offer £14 million for Rahman, who was one of the stand-out defenders in last season’s Bundesliga, helping Augsburg to their best ever finish of fifth.

Club chairman Hoffmann is therefore keen to maintain the structure of his side rather than sell his best players.

"We do not need the Baba millions. We have a good, solid team here,” he told Bild.

"There's no need to even talk about an offer under ?20 million, as I've previously stated."

With Chelsea expecting to reclaim the majority of the £16 million they paid Atletico for Luis they will have to spend the vast majority of that income if they want Rahman to be their new left-back.

Chelsea on verge of closing deal for Augsburg left back Baba

With Filipe Luis on his way to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea is looking for a new left back.
Mourinho's club has a meeting scheduled on Monday with Ausgburg to complete the deal for Baba.
Chelsea already reached an agreement with the player on a 5 year deal worth ?2 million net a season.
Roma had also pursued Baba, but they concerned with using one of their two non EU slots on his while they are also pursuing Dzeko and Salah.

New contract for Kalas



Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce Tomas Kalas has signed a new three-year contract.

Kalas, who joined Middlesbrough on loan last week, signed for the Blues in January 2011 from home town club Sigma Olomouc in Czech Republic.

After a successful loan spell with Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands, he became a part of Jose Mourinho’s first team squad for the 2013/14 season, making his debut as a substitute in a 2-0 League Cup victory away at Arsenal.

Kalas made his full debut in April 2014 in another impressive away win, the memorable 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, where he impressed at the heart of defence alongside Branislav Ivanovic.

Kalas was a part of the Czech Under-21 squad for this summer’s European Championships, and will now spend the 2015/16 season back with Middlesbrough.

The door has opened for Baba Rahman to leave Augsburg, with Chelsea closing in on the signing of the 21-year old.

Augsburg have confirmed the signing of left-back Philipp Max from Karlsruhe, as his replacement.

Reports in Germany suggest Rahman Baba could join Chelsea for as much as ?25m (£17.5m).

Baba Rahman agrees to Chelsea move from Augsburg, agent confirms

Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman has agreed to join Chelsea - all that is left is for the clubs to agree a fee, according to the player’s agent.

Rahman, 21, is understood to be have been of interest to Blues boss Jose Mourinho for some time after a standout season for a side who finished fifth in the Bundesliga last term.

He played 31 times for Augsburg and made more tackles than any other left-back in the German top division last season.

Sascha Empacher, who represents the Ghana international, confirmed to German newspaper Bild: "It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed."

Augsburg have also signed 21-year-old left-back Philipp Max this week, suggesting they are now prepared to allow Rahman to leave.

Rahman began his career at Bundlesliga 2 side Greuther Furth, making his debut as a 16-year-old before a move to Augsburg in 2014.

He has made 31 top-flight appearances for the club and has 11 caps for Ghana, featuring in all their matches at this year's Africa Cup of Nations.
