Bolton defender Tyrone Mears has been taken to hospital after breaking his leg in training on Thursday.

"Ty went in for a challenge and unfotunately suffered the injury," Bolton boss Owen Coyle told the club website.

"It was desperately unlucky for him and we will make sure he is fully supported in his rehabilitation."

Bolton Wanderers defender Tyrone Mears has been taken to hospital after breaking his leg in training on Thursday morning.

Manager Owen Coyle said: "Ty went in for a challenge and unfortunately suffered the injury.

"It was desperately unlucky for him and we will make sure that he is fully supported in his rehabilitation.

"He will go for a check and an assessment in a month and that will indicate more accurately the timescale for his recovery."

Stuart Holden is back in training with Bolton after five months out of action with a knee injury.

The United States midfielder had been sidelined since he was forced off against Manchester United on March 19 but celebrated his 26th birthday on Monday by joining in with his team-mates.

He Tweeted: 'Best bday present 2 be kicking balls and running outside after 5 months out! Not long now!

'Let me clarify on the training part... Not in full training, just doing work on the grass, another step forward.

'Seen a few articles saying I have resumed full training, is not true! Progressing in the right direction.'

Holden needed 26 stitches in his knee following a challenge from United defender Jonny Evans in Wanderers' 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Bolton start the new Barclays Premier League campaign at QPR on August 13.
