Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc has admitted his interest in signing Manchester United winger Angel di Maria.

Di Maria almost moved to the Parc des Princes last summer before United secured his services for a British-record £59.7m fee.  

But the 27-year-old struggled at Old Trafford after a bright start, starting just once for Louis van Gaal's side during the final two months of the season.

The imminent arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, as well as the signing of forward Memphis Depay, have further stoked speculation United could now be prepared to let the Argentina international leave, though Blanc concedes any deal is far from certain.

Asked about Di Maria, the PSG boss was quoted as telling L'Equipe: "Yes, I like him very much. We have our priorities.



"But to strengthen such a team you must target guys who are at big clubs and who are not easy to prise away. That’s hardest for PSG.

"Di Maria, he’s good. We have more freedom, but it remains a difficult project for us because we’re not alone in wanting him.

"When you see the financial power of the English clubs, they are attacking everyone. Competition is very, very tough. Don’t forget, Manchester United paid a fortune to sign him.

"For us to work effectively, we have to think of other solutions. We must be proactive."

Blanc went on to dismiss reports suggesting star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic could leave.

Inter boss Roberto Mancini has admitted he would be keen to lure the Sweden international, who has just a year left on his contract, while midfielder Nigel de Jong has urged Ibrahimovic to return instead to AC Milan.

But Blanc told reporters: "There was never any doubt of him staying.

"I don’t attach any importance to rumours. For us it was very clear: Ibra was always part of the 2015-2016 squad."

Louis van Gaal is unsure whether Angel Di Maria will still be a Manchester United player at the end of the summer transfer window.

The Argentina international struggled to make an impact in his first season in the Premier League, scoring four goals in 32 appearances after United broke the British transfer record to sign him for £59.7million from Real Madrid.

Di Maria was linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the 2014-15 season and speculation has continued over the summer, most recently linking the 27-year-old with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Van Gaal was asked about Di Maria's future at a press conference in Seattle on Wednesday to mark the start of United's pre-season tour of the United States, and was unable to provide any certainty about his future either way.

"We shall see," Van Gaal said of Di Maria, who is not part of United's touring party as he is on extended leave after spending part of the summer playing for his country in the Copa America.

"In football, it is a process, as I have said many times before in press conferences. It's not clear in one day.

"It's a process for Angel Di Maria, it's a process for Manchester United and we shall see.

"But he is still a member of Manchester United and he has said to me he will come on July 25."

Angel Di Maria agrees to join Man Utd tour despite PSG deal edging closer

Angel di Maria has agreed to join Man United's pre-season tour of the United States even though he appears to be edging closer to a move to Paris St Germain.

PSG are interested in signing Di Maria, who endured a difficult first season at Old Trafford following his £59.7million move from Real Madrid.

United have refused to comment on reports they have agreed a fee of 65 million euros (£46million) with the French champions for the Argentinian, who has struggled to settle in the Manchester area following an attempted burglary at his Cheshire home in February.

Louis van Gaal gave Di Maria, Marcos Rojo and Javier Hernandez an extended period of leave this summer following their international commitments at the Copa America and Gold Cup.

But they were all due to report for duty on July 25 and that still remains the case despite speculation a deal for Di Maria is almost done.

"I expect them (Di Maria, Rojo and Hernandez) here tomorrow," the United manager said at a press conference in San Jose on Friday.

"We have communicated (with them) and they have responded to that."

Van Gaal refused to discuss whether Di Maria is leaving for PSG.

"I am not answering questions about transfers or the process in transfers," the Dutchman said.

Angel di Maria has told Manchester United he wants to join Paris Saint-Germain.
The French champions have proposed a £46.5million offer and hope to finalise terms by Monday.
Louis van Gaal is ready to let the player go after it became clear the club's record signing wanted to leave just one year after signing for £59.7m from Real Madrid.
The Manchester United manager informed his team prior to their friendly with Barcelona that Di Maria was to join PSG.
Compatriot Marcos Rojo was not present but is understood to have an issue with his passport and could be facing disciplinary measures from the United boss.
Di Maria has failed to settle in Manchester following a burglary at his home last season and has flitted in and out of the side.
Although a popular figure, it became clear to players and staff that he was finding it difficult to become part of the group.
PSG wanted to sign him prior to United but were restricted by FFP guidelines however they have made him their number one target since those restrictions were loosened and he is happy to make a fresh start in Paris.
Di Maria's representatives have already been scouting for a suitable home in the French capital, while PSG want to unveil the new signing in America before a formal presentation in Paris.
United may yet ask for a player in return with Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among those discussed as PSG look to redress the imbalance di Maria's arrival will place on their wage bill.
Di Maria is expected to head to the New York Red Bulls' training base for his medical tests once the deal is agreed.
PSG play against United in a pre-season game in Chicago next week.

DI MARIA UPDATE

Our man following Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States, Sky Sports News HQ reporter Vinny O’Connor, has given an update on the future of reported Paris Saint-Germain target Angel Di Maria.

“We know there is interest from Paris Saint-Germain and we also know there has been contact between the two clubs,” he said.

“So far this hasn’t materialised into a deal between the two clubs and we understand Manchester United are not keen to sell Di Maria - that certainly seems to be the attitude of Louis van Gaal.

“It is also our understanding that a price tag of around 60 million euros might well be enough to prize Di Maria away from United.

“As it stands, though, there is no deal in place and Manchester United very much want to keep hold of Di Maria. That said, PSG are trying hard to prize him away.”

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says he "does not know why" Angel Di Maria has not joined up with his team on their pre-season tour.
French paper L'Equipe reports United have agreed a £46.5m deal with Paris St-Germain for the 27-year-old Argentina midfielder.
But it is understood talks are ongoing with a fee yet to be agreed.
"He was not on the plane," said Van Gaal after the 3-1 friendly win over Barcelona in Santa Clara, California.
"Marcos Rojo was also not on the plane. He has had a passport issue - for Angel Di Maria, I don't know why. I cannot say anything."
Van Gaal said on Friday that Di Maria would join United on their pre-season tour of the United States, despite rumours about a move to French champions PSG.
However, it has now been claimed the midfielder, who moved to the Premier League from Real Madrid last summer for a British record £59.7m, will travel to New Jersey - where PSG are based during their tour of America - for a medical with the Ligue 1 club.

'Outcome is very close'

PSG coach Laurent Blanc, speaking after his side lost on penalties to Chelsea, suggested the saga was close to ending.
"There is a good possibility (he could sign) but there is nothing official," said the former France national team coach.
"There is an anticipation he is going to come to the US but as to which jersey he is going to wear, we don't know yet.
"If he does make a change hopefully it will be for Paris St-Germain. We have to have patience a little longer. The outcome is very close."

Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibramhimovic has welcomed his side's reported move for Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria, according to The Irish Times.

The Sweden international is quoted as saying: "I don’t know if it is done but of course if you get a chance to play with Di Maria it is a fantastic thing. The guy has won everything. He is a fantastic player who plays for the team.

"He brings pace to a team. He brings quality, big quality and for sure he will make our team even better than it is today. So for sure he is welcome and we will receive him with open arms.

"It’s all about small details. Real Madrid are a fantastic team. They have fantastic players. Of course when Real Madrid got Bale they became better for sure and we will become better for sure with Di Maria."
