Sunderland are interested in QPR’s Leroy Fer and France international Yann M'Vila to bolster their midfield next season, Sky sources understand.

Sunderland are yet to make a formal offer for Fer but are understood to have enquired about the Dutch international’s services, although they could face competition for his signature from West Ham.

A loan deal has been mooted for the former Feyenoord midfielder, who made 32 appearances for QPR last term after joining the club in an £8m deal from Norwich a year ago.

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat is also understood to be interested in signing Rubin Kazan midfielder M’Villa.



The France international made a surprise £10m move to Rubin from Ligue 1 side Rennes two-and-a-half years ago after being linked with a host of top European clubs.

M’Vila spent last season on loan at Inter Milan and looked set for another temporary move to Dinamo Moscow after a dispute with his parent club.

But Sunderland are hoping to lure the midfielder to Wearside after already completing summer deals for Jeremain Lens, Younes Kaboul, Ricky Alvarez, Adam Matthews and Sebastian Coates.

Sky sources report that Leroy Fer has failed his medical at Sunderland and will return to QPR.

The 25-year-old Dutch international appeared poised to join the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal but that appears unlikely to go through.

Fer suffered a medial collateral ligament injury last Febuary, during QPR’s Premier League victory at Sunderland and the focus on Wearside now appears to be on pushing through a deal for Yann M'Vila.

Fer also failed a medical when on the brink of moving to Everton from FC Twente back in January 2013.

But he subsequently joined Norwich that summer and made 30 appearances for the Canaries, who also suffered relegation that season.

Fer appeared 29 times in the Premier League for QPR last season and was their second-highest goal-scorer with six.

Yann M'Vila on Wearside to complete Sunderland loan move

Yann M’Vila is on Wearside for talks over a season-long loan to Sunderland from Rubin Kazan, according to Sky sources.

It is believed the France midfielder is keen to move to the Premier League club and could undergo a medical within the next 24 hours.

Sky Sports reported earlier this month that Sunderland were interested in M’Vila as well as QPR midfielder Leroy Fer, who has since returned to Loftus Road after failing a medical.

M’Vila signed for Rubin for £10m from French Ligue 1 side Rennes two-and-a-half years ago, having reportedly been the subject of interest from a number of top European clubs.

He spent last season on loan at Inter Milan and looked set for another temporary move to Dinamo Moscow after a reported dispute with his parent club.

But Sunderland are set to land M’Vila and add him to their list of summer signings Jeremain Lens, Younes Kaboul, Ricky Alvarez, Adam Matthews and Sebastian Coates.

M’Vila has 22 caps for France, having made his international debut in 2010, but in November 2012, he was banned from national team matches until June 2014 after an unauthorised night out while on U21 duty.

He has not made an international appearance since.
