Theo Walcott will open Arsenal talks in next fortnight



Theo Walcott will hold talks over his future with Arsenal in the next two weeks, according to Sky sources.

The 26-year-old, a reported target for Premier League rivals Liverpool, has one year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates.

Walcott, who has scored 77 goals in 203 appearances since joining from Southampton in the summer of 2006, has been a peripheral figure at Arsenal this season, with just three Premier League starts among 13 appearances in all competitions.

Earlier this season, the England winger denied manager Arsene Wenger's claims that initial talks had been held, stressing there had been 'no bust-up as he continued to concentrate on returning from a long-term knee injury'.

Theo Walcott: Arsene Wenger 'confident' forward will stay

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Theo Walcott will sign a new deal with the Premier League club.
The 26-year-old has a year remaining on his current contract and has been linked with a move to Liverpool.  
When asked about Walcott's stay at the Emirates, Wenger said: "I am confident because I believe Theo has a great future."
The forward has been restricted to five starts this term as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.
But the England international, who has scored 77 goal in 203 games for Arsenal, could be available for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Reading.
"He is just coming back from a very, very difficult injury. Every week he is getting better," added Wenger.
"Theo is very young and I believe he will have a great goalscoring record in the future because of the quality and intelligence of his game, and therefore I would like him to stay with our club."
Wenger said he also expects Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky to agree contract extensions at the end of May.

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott says he is optimistic that a new contract with Arsenal will be agreed this summer.

Walcott’s current deal only has one year left to run, but talks about an extension are due to resume between his representatives and Arsenal later this summer.

However, while he seems confident a new contract will be in place ahead of next season, Walcott also warned that it may take a while for the deal to be finalised.

The 26-year-old England international was speaking at an open-top bus parade around the streets of Islington held to celebrate Arsenal’s 4-0 FA Cup final victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Walcott impressed in the final, scoring the opening goal just before half-time, and will now join up with the England squad.

Asked by Sky Sports News HQ if he thought an Arsenal extension was in the offing, Walcott said: “I am sure things will get resolved. I just want to enjoy today.

"I have got England coming up and then we can think about that process, but it will take time, I am sure."

Despite the wet weather, thousands of Arsenal fans came onto the streets to cheer the squad and Walcott says they now need to be rewarded with a title challenge from the Gunners.

“It has been a great success this year,” said Walcott. “It has been a step up, to finish third (in the Premier League) and win the FA Cup in consecutive years. We want more and more of this.

"These players have the trust in each other and this has got to be a stepping stone now to challenge for the title, because this is what all of these fans dream of.

"We need to do it for them, they have waited a long time."

Manager Arsene Wenger had feared a long and drawn-out process, but there is now a willingness on both sides to find an agreement and talks should take place in the coming days.
Walcott is keen to know he will play regular first-team football, but fears over his position in Wenger’s squad were allayed by his inclusion in the FA Cup final in which he scored Arsenal’s opening goal against Aston Villa.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Walcott, along with Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers, but it appears both men will be disappointed in their hopes to sign the England international.

Walcott currently earns £100,000-a-week at Arsenal and can expect a pay rise to take him close to the club’s top earners Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who pocket £140,000-a-week.
Having allowed Walcott to focus on his time with England for the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia games, Arsenal now want to sort his contract situation out and make an early summer statement.

Theo Walcott is relaxed about contract talks at Arsenal

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott says he is hoping to stay with the club but does not mind if negotiations over a new deal extend unto the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old has been at Arsenal since 2006 and signed a three-and-a-half-year deal 18 months ago.

And he said after their FA Cup final victory in May that he thought the north London side could lay down a challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Quoted in Monday’s newspapers, Walcott said of his contract situation: “My agent has talked to the club.

“I enjoy playing for this club, so I am just letting them crack on with things and I'll continue playing football.

"We'll just play the waiting game and see what happens but I'm sure it won't be long. This squad, for me, is one of the best I've been involved in. I want to be part of that."

Asked whether he would be happy if the talks carried on past the start of the upcoming campaign, he added: "Definitely. It's not in my thought process at all.

“You don't want to dwell on it, you want to play well and, if it happens, it happens.

"I won't let that delay the way I'm going to be playing this season. I can't let that affect me, I want to do well for this club.

"It's my first pre-season for two years now, so I want to work hard and get fit.

"It's a really exciting year for myself personally and I think this team can go very far.”

Arsenal looked good on Saturday when they beat Everton 3-1 to clinch the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore and Walcott scored the opener.

He added: “I'm always going to be judged on goals. I've been very happy with my goal record when given the opportunity, that is all I can do."

Theo Walcott agrees new four-year deal at Arsenal - and becomes one of club's highest earners



Theo Walcott has agreed a new contract at Arsenal.

The 26-year-old England international was set to enter the last year of his current deal.

But after a summer of talks between the player and his representatives, negotiations ended successfully.

The deal will keep Walcott at the Emirates until 2019 and put his salary in the £100,000 a week bracket and make him one of the club’s highest earners.

Arsenal will officially confirm the new contract in the next two weeks – certainly before the start of the Premier League season when they play West Ham at home.

Walcott has proved that he has fully recovered from the serious knee injury that kept him out for a year after he was hurt playing against Tottenham in the FA Cup in January 2014.

The injury also kept him out of the World Cup in Brazil. He returned this January and showed he had lost none of his pace or goalscoring touch.

Manager Arsene Wenger wanted to avoid a repeat of the scenario when Walcott’s contract was last running down.

It was well into the final six months before agreement was reached and Arsenal had a genuine fear they could lose Walcott on a free transfer.

But that fear has now been quashed and Walcott will stay for another four years.

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott is getting "closer and closer" to signing a new contract, says manager Arsene Wenger.
The 26-year-old England forward has a year remaining on his current deal.
When asked about whether Walcott had signed a new contract, Wenger said: "Not yet. Hopefully we can finalise it very soon."
Walcott, who joined from Southampton in 2006 at the age of just 16, scored the winner as Arsenal defeated Wolfsburg 1-0 to win the Emirates Cup on Sunday.
He signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with Arsenal, worth £100,000 a week, in January 2013.
Walcott has made 302 league and cup appearances for the Gunners, scoring 76 goals.
He was hampered by a knee problem last season which limited him to 14 Premier League appearances.
