Tony Pulis will make a £3million bid for Rickie Lambert this week as he steps up his search for signings at West Bromwich Albion.

Pulis has prioritised a move for the Liverpool striker and will table a firm offer when he returns from the club's pre-season tour of the United States on Tuesday.

Lambert has been told he can leave Anfield barely 12 months after his £4million move from Southampton and will be offered the chance to resurrect his career at the Hawthorns.

Pulis is growing frustrated with the lack of signings and spoke with chairman Jeremy Peace in a 90-minute conference call on Sunday, in a bid to start making some headway on targets.

The only summer arrival so far has been the £1million capture of James McClean from Wigan Athletic and Pulis is keen to make at least one signing before the weekend.

Lambert, 33, has now emerged as one of West Brom's leading targets and a bid is expected in the next few days.

Albion believe £3million will be enough to land the England international, who was sent to an Adelaide hospital over the weekend after suffering an injury in training.

Norwich boss Alex Neil is leading the chase for Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert.

Newly-promoted Norwich have jumped to the head of the queue of clubs in for the 33-year-old England international.

They are keen to strengthen their strike force for the Premier League and have already made enquiries and will follow up with a bid.

West Brom, Bournemouth and Aston Villa have all shown interest while Middlesbrough had a move knocked back.

Lambert is on tour with Liverpool at the moment but has picked up an injury in training which is not believed to be serious.

The former Southampton striker Lambert will be allowed to leave Anfield this summer after Liverpool signed Danny Ings and will complete a £32.5m move for Christian Benteke this week.

Lambert turned down a chance to join Villa in January to stay and fight for his place at his boyhood club.

But with the new arrivals and his England future under threat, he could be tempted to go a year after joining Liverpool for £3m.

Liverpool are likely to let him go for a similar fee and Norwich are in pole position to get him if he goes with Neil particularly keen on the target man.

West Brom are expected to hold talks with Rickie Lambert’s representatives over the next 24 hours over a proposed transfer from Liverpool, according to Sky sources.

Lambert started just seven Premier League games for the Reds last season and has just one year remaining on his current Anfield contract.

Albion boss Tony Pulis is expected to step up his bid to sign the Liverpool striker after returning from the club’s recent pre-season tour of the US.

Lambert has one year remaining on his current contract but has fallen down the pecking order since joining from Southampton last summer.

The 33-year-old, who has scored just three goals in 36 appearances for the Reds, is likely to see his chances of first-team football diminish further with the expected arrival of Christian Benteke from Aston Villa.

Lambert turned down a deadline day move to Aston Villa during the January transfer window to stay with the team which released him as a teenager.

Norwich City, AFC Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough have also been linked with the England international.

Rickie Lambert has completed a £3million move from Liverpool to West Bromwich Albion.

Lambert has departed his boyhood club a little more than 12 months after his surprise arrival from Southampton for £4.5m.

The 33-year-old accepted his days at Anfield were numbered after Brendan Rodgers chose to overhaul his strikeforce in response to last season’s disappointing Premier League showing.

Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi have all arrived this summer for a combined fee approaching £50m to join Daniel Sturridge in competing for a place in the Reds’ forward line.

And Lambert, along with Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini, have been deemed surplus to requirements.

Lambert realised a dream when he signed for Liverpool some 17 years after he was released as a trainee.

However, he endured a frustrating campaign and found his opportunities limited. He scored three goals in 36 appearances but made just 12 starts.
