Roberto Firmino: Liverpool sign Brazil striker in £29m deal



Liverpool have signed forward Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim on a five-year deal for a fee of about £29m.
The 23-year-old's deal is subject to a medical, which will take place after he returns from Chile, where he has been playing for Brazil in the Copa America.
Firmino, who has scored 47 goals in 151 games for Hoffenheim, becomes the Reds' second most expensive player.
The Anfield club made Andy Carroll their record signing when he joined them for £35m from Newcastle in 2011.
They also paid Southampton £25m for Adam Lallana in 2014, and have already brought in Burnley striker Danny Ings, goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, defender Joe Gomez and midfielder James Milner this summer.
The Reds have so far resisted two offers from Manchester City for England forward Raheem Sterling.
Firmino, who has spent the last four-and-a-half seasons in the Bundesliga, was on target for Brazil in their 2-1 Copa America victory over Venezuela on Sunday.
In the absence of Neymar, who has been suspended for the rest of the tournament, Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, who is already a Liverpool player, are set to start again in Saturday's quarter-final against Paraguay.

"Liverpool are genuinely delighted to have completed this deal with such speed.
"Brendan Rodgers wants quality over quantity this summer and Firmino has produced at the very highest level, with four goals in nine games since his call-up by Brazil in November.
"He has adapted to life in Germany well, which suggests he can settle quickly on Merseyside.
"Is it a gamble? Liverpool have only once paid more money for a player. But the hope this time is the signing is remembered for all the right reasons."

Manchester United transfer target Roberto Firmino will move to Premier League, agent confirmst



Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino – who has been linked with a move to Manchester United – will move to England next season, according to his agent.

Firmino, who is currently with the Brazil squad for the Copa America in Chile, is rumoured to be available for between £18m and £22m.

The 23-year-old, who has also been linked with Liverpool, is being groomed as a potential mainstay of the Brazilian national side as part of their post-World Cup restructuring.

He was a stand-out performer for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga this season as he scored seven goals and assisted a further 10, a total bettered only by Kevin De Bruyne and Zlatko Junuzovic.

Roger Wittmann, who represents Firmino, would not confirm where the striker's exact destination was but confirmed he will be moving to the Premier League.

"All I can say is that he's moving to England," Wittmann said.

All of the formalities - including a medical - are likely to be completed while Firmino is in South America to enable him to complete what is likely to be a club record transfer for the Bundesliga outfit.

Their previous biggest transfer was the sale of Carlos Eduardo to Rubin Kazan for 20 million euros (£14.5m).

Sky sources: Roberto Firmino set to join Liverpool in the next 24 hours



Sky sources report that Liverpool have agreed a deal with Hoffenheim to sign forward Roberto Firmino.

The Anfield side have been looking to strengthen their attacking options, Sky sources reported earlier in the day that Liverpool had held talks with Carlos Bacca, Salomon Rondon and Firmino and the Brazilian is now on the brink of a switch to Anfield.

Formerly with Figueirense in Brazil, Firmino can play anywhere across the front three, and is currently on Copa America duty with Brazil but Sky sources understand the 23-year-old will sign within the next 24 hours.

Sky Sports News HQ reporter Dharmesh Sheth said: “This is potentially very good news for Liverpool.

“We understand that they have agreed a deal with Hoffenheim for attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino.

“He is at the Copa America in Chile at the moment, but he has given Liverpool a verbal undertaking that he will join in the next 24 hours.

“Sources in Germany have also told us that the deal is as good as done.

“As far as we are concerned, we have been told that the deal has been agreed and that he has given a verbal undertaking that he will join in the next 24 hours."

Liverpool have already signed Burnley striker Danny Ings, while Adam Bodgan, Joe Gomez and James Milner have already been brought in.

The Reds have so far resisted two offers from Man City for Raheem Sterling but with Firmino's arrival understood to be imminent, City could resurrect their interest in the England international.

Sheth added: “Could this have a knock-on effect for a certain Raheem Sterling? They play in similar positions.

“Raheem Sterling has been the subject of two rejected bids from Manchester City. Will Manchester City come back with a third bid, given this news?

“Will Liverpool now think they have got someone in place and be willing to sell Sterling to Manchester City?”

Firmino arrived at Hoffenheim at the start of 2011 having been signed for £3.52m as a 19-year-old, and has scored 48 times in 152 appearances for the German side, notching seven times in the Bundesliga last term.

And he was also on target for Brazil in their 2-1 Copa America victory over Venezuela on Sunday.
