Official: PSV sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Feyenoord

The versatile midfielder has departed Rotterdam for the Eindhoven giants and is looking forward to playing for silverware at his new club

Eredivisie giants PSV have confirmed the transfer of youngster Georginio Wijnaldum from Feyenoord for a fee believed to be in the region of ?5 million. The 20-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2015 with the Eindhoven outfit.

Both sides have been involved in talks over the transfer of the Netherlands under-21 star and wrapped up the final details of the move on Sunday evening, with Wijnaldum undergoing a medical at the weekend.

"This is pretty special for me. I'm still a young player and I'm keen to continue developing into a better player. That's why staying in the Netherlands was in my best interest. PSV always play for the Eredivisie title and that's new for me," he said on the PSV website.

Wijnaldum's contract with Feyenoord ran until the summer of 2012 and the club decided to cash in on the player when he revealed his desire to move elsewhere. He made 110 Eredivisie appearances for the Rotterdam side, scoring 22 goals in the process.

The promising midfielder is PSV's third signing within 48 hours, after the previous captures of Utrecht duo Dries Mertens and Kevin Strootman on Sunday.

Zamparini - Alvarez off to Inter

Inter Milan are set to beat Arsenal to the signing of Argentine ace Ricky Alvarez, according to Maurizio Zamparini.

The Palermo president was the man who revealed last week that Arsenal were set to win the race for the Velez Sarsfield midfielder.

Palermo had also been bidding for Alvarez, which seemingly gave Zamparini his insight and now he claims that he knows Inter's late bid for the player looks set to be successful.

"We were close to signing [Ricky] Alvarez for half the price they will now pay for him but my colleagues took it easy and no agreement was reached," Zamparini bemoaned to Sky Italia.

"Where he will go? He was going to sign for Arsenal but Inter Milan made a move and that is where I believe he will go."

Velez have now confirmed that a number of clubs are keen on him naming Roma, as well as Inter and Arsenal.

"Ricky Alvarez could be in England or Italy, because we are negotiating with several clubs in those countries," said Velez chief Fernando Raffaini.

"Until it is signed, nothing is confirmed, but many clubs are interested: Inter, Roma and Arsenal, for example."

Tottenham are set to launch an audacious bid to bring AC bid Milan striker Antonio Cassano to White Hart Lane.

Italian media is reporting that Tottenham have made discreet enquiries to the availability of Cassano, who joined AC Milan just last year, and by all accounts the Italian club are prepared to listen to offers.



Cassano has had a very volatile career, however Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager, has had more than his fair share of volatile characters to manage, including the legendary Paolo Di Canio, and will believe that he will be able to bring out the best in Cassano.

No fee was mentioned, but the 28 year old will not be overpriced and certainly within Tottenham’s budget.

Villa close on N'Zogbia

Skysports.com understands Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia.

Villa boss Alex McLeish is a big fan of the Frenchman and tried to sign the player when he was in charge of Birmingham.

Wigan are resigned to losing N'Zogbia with Latics chairman Dave Whelan admitting they will not stand in his way if they receive a suitable offer.

The Frenchman is entering the final year of his contract at the DW Stadium and the player is ready to move on to play at a higher level

McLeish has identified N'Zogbia as one of his top summer transfer targets and he is keen to win the race for his signature.

The likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Sunderland have all been linked with a move for the winger, but Villa are thought to be favourites for the 25-year-old.

N'Zogbia could help fill the void left by Ashley Young's departure to Manchester United last month.
