Spain team-mate David Villa says Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas ‘deserves to return’ to Barcelona
Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa has urged his club to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, saying he ‘deserves to return’.
Former Barcelona youth-team player Fabregas has often expressed his desire to go back to the club where he grew up though a deal has so far failed to materialise.
Fabregas is reportedly Barcelona’s No.1 transfer target this summer, and despite the club's already outstanding options in his position, Villa believes he could be a key player for the recently crowned European Champions.
Villa plays with Fabregas in the Spanish national team and believes the midfielder has earned the right to once again play for Barcelona.
"I have a soft spot for Cesc. You know what he would give to the team,” Villa told The Sun.
"I hope he can come to Barcelona. Not only as a player but as someone who deserves to return."
While Fabregas has never hidden his desire to return to Camp Nou it remains unclear whether Arsene Wenger would be willing to entertain offers for his talismanic, under-contract midfielder - or whether Barca would be prepared to meet the Gunners' reported £45 million asking price.
