For CE Composition....let me share my experience...
If u aim at a pass,
Formal letter/Informal letter is the best choice since the format is standard (opening&ending can be memorised). Also it often relates to some personal comments (seeking advice/giving advice to your best friend/letter to the editor) and realistic situations regarding youngsters, thus it should be much more easy to handle. I wrote a letter to the editor and successfully got an A, so don't hv the misconception that writing a letter can't get good grades.
There are usually
Discussive/Argumentative type questions. You should be able to differentiate their nature. Don't try to attempt argumentative which is one-sided essay (Asking u to state either FOR or AGAINST the motion) as it's difficult to write about 450 words on either side if the topic isn't easy. Discussive (Analytical) is recommended as it usually requires u to state an issue's advantages/disadvantages/causes/defects and gives solutions, thus there should be no problem to reach the goal. Moreover, you should get used to writing this kind of essay as these are the mainstay in AL Composition.
Narrative (Story) is not recommended if your vocabulary is not rich and verbal structure is not good enough since only content points are not enough for candidates to get B or above. If u think you are capable of getting an A, narrative should be the choice for you as it makes a huge difference compared to the inferior ones.
***************
In CE composition, if u can finish a composition with only a few grammatical mistakes (about 4-5 errors), just giving some basic content pts and is able to express your own ideas, you must be able to score at least a grade C.
Don't try to fix some "superior" structures/vocabs in your essay to impress the marker, many of the candidates misuse those vocabs/structures and this makes adverse effects. Thus if u aim at a credit, use simple sentences and occasionally apply good vocab correctly, a B-C is in your hands.
Don't make an attempt to memorize model essays, markers will be able to realise that it doesn't come from your words and give a "pending A". The final grade will be assessed by considering the results of other papers. So please note it.
Before u start, try to highlight the points which the topic requires, this helps you much to focus on the theme of your passage and helps avoid "out of topic"'s emergence.
Actually I am not good enough to give advice but just try to share. Hope the above-mentioned pts will be useful for some of you. Gotta continue my study~
