Redknapp joined Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish in being beaten to £16million Blackburn starlet Phil Jones by Manchester United yesterday - but the Tottenham manager has now
targeted Chelsea’s Didier Drogba to make amends.
Also on Spurs' hit-list are West Ham’s Scott Parker - at the right price - and Brazil marksman Leandro Damiao.
Other targets are thought to include Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor, while Redknapp is currently rivalling Arsenal and Liverpool for Lille winger-cum-striker Gervinho.
Espanyol striker Pablo Osvaldo has been scouted extensively, while the club have had an eye-catching £10m bid for Fulham’s Moussa Dembele turned down.Now the Spurs boss has warned chairman Daniel Levy that more Champions League football is out of the question unless he pushes the boat out.
Redknapp said: “I want Daniel to go out and get three fantastic players. You can’t say that, just because we didn’t make the Champions League, we’re not going to improve next year.
“If you do that, then we’re not going to get in it again. That’s a fact, because you won’t pass the teams that finished above you last year. If we don’t improve then they will improve.
"Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal – they will improve, and Man City... they’re unbelievable.
“They are never going to stop improving as will Kenny with Liverpool now. You have to keep improving if you want to keep anywhere near those teams.
“I certainly feel we need three players of real quality if we are going to compete with those teams otherwise it will be very difficult."
White Hart Lane hosted its first-ever Champions League campaign last season with Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan all featuring.
But Tottenham struggled for goals domestically and could only qualify for the Europa League.
Even before the season had ended Redknapp was scouring the globe for potential recruits.
He has made no secret of the fact that he has pinpointed an experienced leader and a free-scoring striker – possibly as his two priorities.
Spurs have been keen on Adebayor for some time and although the striker, who spent the end of last season on loan at Real Madrid, has created a favourable impression he could be available as Real hope to sign wantaway Sergio Aguero from rivals Atletico Madrid.
Spurs are also set to offer an improved £12m offer for Damiao after having a £10.5m bid turned down. Benfica and Juventus are also understood to be -interested in him, however.
Redknapp added: “I don’t see why it’s not impossible to get into the Champions League again.
“I’ve said I want to win the championship with Tottenham. I want to win the Premier League.”Read more:
