Jerome stepping up fitness bid
Blues striker returning to fitness after heel injury

Chris Hughton does not believe a heel injury will have any impact on whether Cameron Jerome leaves Birmingham City before the close of the transfer window.

Jerome has yet to feature for Birmingham this season due to the injury and has been linked with a return to the Premier League.

Bolton Wanderers, Fulham and Stoke City have all shown an interest in the 24-year-old as Blues look to balance the books following relegation to the Championship.

The striker is stepping up his return to fitness and Blues boss Hughton believes Jerome's injury will have no bearing on his future at St Andrew's.

"Most people know Cameron's situation," said Hughton.

"He's doing running and feeling no effects of the injury.

"I don't think that will have any sort of bearing on whether he stays or goes."

The Frenchman is ready to splash the cash to bring proven quality to the Emirates Stadium to cover high profile departures and strengthen the Gunners’ weak defence

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has lodged bids for Lille’s Eden Hazard, Rennes’ Yann M’Vila and Everton’s Phil Jagielka as he attempts to bring in significant reinforcements before the close of the transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners are thought to have offered ?17.2 million for M’Vila and in excess of ?22.9m for Hazard. The value of the latest bid for Jagielka is not known, but would presumably represent an improvement on the ?11.4m proposal turned down by Everton earlier in the summer.

Wenger has reportedly set his sights on midfield enforcer M’Vila as he looks to add bite and physical presence to his side, while tricky winger Hazard is believed to have been on the Gunners’ radar for the last two years. Jagielka is thought to be preferred to Bolton’s Gary Cahill by the Frenchman, who considers bringing in a new centre-back his top priority.

The sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and likely departure of Samir Nasri to Manchester City ensures Wenger should now possess the funds to conclude all three deals, although negotiations will have to be swift with the transfer window set to close at the end of the month.

Gunners fans have so far been frustrated with their manager’s inability or unwillingness to act decisively in the transfer market this summer, with Lille forward Gervinho so far the only arrival of proven quality.

But after a poor start to the league campaign and Champions League qualification still hanging in the balance, Wenger now appears ready to splash the cash in order to save his side’s season.

Dynamo confirm Weiss deal

Dynamo Kiev have confirmed that Vladimir Weiss is joining them from Manchester City this summer.

An agreement has been reached between the two clubs and the winger will become part of the Ukrainian giants' squad "soon" as he has already passed his medical.

"Yes, Vladimir Weiss has passed a medical and soon we will include him in our squad," Kiev head coach Yuri Semin told local television.

Sky Sports sources understand that Weiss will cost Kiev a transfer fee of £4million, even though the clubs have yet to disclose any financial detail.

The Slovakia international, who has been at City since 2006 and developed at the club's youth academy, has failed to cement his place in the first team at the Etihad Stadium since making his debut in 2009 and played on loan for Rangers last season.

The 21-year-old, whose father Vladimir Weiss Snr is the coach of the Slovakia national team, played a prominent role in City's pre-season tour of North America but has been told by boss Roberto Mancini that his first-team opportunities this season will be limited.

City have already sold a number of their fringe players this summer, including Shay Given and Jerome Boateng, and are also trying to offload the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy.

Wolves join Bullard race
Playmaker attracting interest from trio of clubs

Skysports.com understands that Wolves have joined Queens Park Rangers and Ipswich in the race to sign Jimmy Bullard.

The 32-year-old midfielder is now a free agent after Hull started the process of terminating his contract at the KC Stadium, which still has two years left to run.

Bullard, who has yet to play for the Tigers this season after being placed on suspension due to an incident on a pre-season trip to Slovenia, can appeal the decision but clubs are already lining up to compete for his signature.

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has already revealed he wants to bring the playmaker back to Portman Road, where he impressed on loan during the second half of last season, while QPR are also believed to be interested.

Jewell stated last week that he thought Bullard's proposed move to QPR "fell through" but the newly-promoted Premier League outfit are still in the race.

Now it is understood Wolves are keeping tabs on Bullard's situation at Hull as they look to bolster their squad before the transfer window closes.

Mick McCarthy's men have made a dream start to the season, beating Fulham 2-0 on Sunday for their second win to sit just behind Manchester City on goal difference.

Bullard's agent Simon Dent told Skysports.com: "We are waiting for Jimmy's registration to be released by Hull City, until this is done Jimmy can't sign with any other clubs.

"I don't think it's any secret that a number of clubs are keeping tabs on the situation."

QPR hope to seal Cole loan

Neil Warnock remains hopeful of bringing in Joe Cole on loan from Liverpool after a fresh injection of cash at QPR.

Tony Fernandes' takeover at Loftus Road last week has given Warnock extra money to spend in the transfer window, and the Rangers boss can now afford to pay a greater portion of Cole's wages.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a loan move to Loftus Road after failing to make an impact at Anfield last season, although his wage demands have been reported as the major stumbling block. Cole is currently on £90,000-a-week at Anfield, but with Liverpool reportedly willing to continue contribute to that figure, Warnock is hopeful of reaching an agreement with Cole.

But despite confirming that he is looking to bring in "four or five" new players before the end of the transfer window on August 31, Warnock insists he will not splash the cash unnecessarily.

"We will not just spend money for the sake of it," Warnock said. "We have to get quality players into the club. Joe Cole? We can probably afford 30 or 40% of his wages now. The chairman knows all my targets and we are discussing them.

"This man coming in, Tony Fernandes, is a dream come true. You do not often get the opportunity to look at players I have only dreamed about. I am in Utopia."

Mancini aware of Nasri issue

Roberto Mancini admits it would be a 'big problem' if Samir Nasri played for Arsenal in their UEFA Champions League qualifier against Udinese.

Manchester City are hoping to sign Nasri in the coming days, but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger claimed at the weekend that a deal was 'far, far, far' from being done.

Nasri made his first appearance of the season in Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Liverpool and is in contention to feature in Wednesday's European second leg against Udinese.
If the France international plays in Italy, it would mean he would not be eligible to play for City in the group phase and Mancini acknowledged this could be an issue.

Big problem

"For 40 days I've hoped in two days, three days (it would be done), I don't know why we haven't closed it," said the City boss.

"It's a big problem (if he plays for Arsenal against Udinese) but I'm sure we can close in 24 hours, maybe 48. For Nasri it will be important he can play in all the Champions League matches."

Meanwhile, Mancini reiterated his belief that Carlos Tevez will not leave City before the transfer window closes after the Argentine made his first outing of the season as a substitute in Sunday's 3-2 win at Bolton Wanderers.

He added: "Carlos is here, I don't think the situation will change. Carlos is an important player, a top player for us and at the moment we haven't received any offers for him."

The City boss, meanwhile, dismissed the possibility of fringe players like Emmanuel Adebayor and Craig Bellamy leaving on free transfers to get them off the wage bill.

He added: "All of these players have a cost because they are good players. If there are teams that want to buy them they need to pay, like us.

"I don't understand why we pay a lot of money and other teams don't."

Napoli join Genoa in race for Fiorentina's Alberto Gilardino - report

Fiorentina attacker Alberto Gilardino could be on the move this summer as Napoli have shown an interest in signing the Italy international, Sky Sport Italia reports.

The striker has previously been linked with Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain, while Genoa were believed to be in pole position to secure Gilardino's services only two weeks ago. However, the Luigi Ferraris side's interest seems to have gone cold in recent days and Napoli are keen to make their move for the 29-year-old.

The Naples side are looking to add some more firepower to their squad in order to be competitive at Champions League level and head coach Walter Mazzarri allegedly sees Gilardino as the perfect addition.

Napoli have yet to table an official offer for the striker, but they have already contacted Fiorentina to enquire as to the player's availability.

Gilardino has a contract with the Artemio Franchi side until the summer of 2013 and offer in the region of ?10 million could be needed to lure the former AC Milan attacker away from Tuscany.
