Fulham have targeted a deadline day move for Everton striker Jermaine Beckford as they close in on the ?12million signing of Bryan Ruiz, Goal.com can reveal.

Martin Jol wants another target-man-style centre-forward to ease some of the burden on Bobby Zamora.

The Fulham manager has been linked with a move for Cameron Jerome but it is understood that the Birmingham City striker is his back-up option to Beckford.

Fulham have made an official approach for the 27-year-old and, although cash-strapped Everton are reluctant sellers, the Londoners are confident they can prise him from Goodison Park for around £3.5m.

With his forward options limited, manager David Moyes is reluctant to sell the former Leeds United player, who moved to Merseyside on a free transfer last summer.

However, Everton's financial problems have been well documented and they would be unable to fend off an offer that matches their valuation of the striker, who scored 10 goals last season in his maiden Premier League campaign but often struggled for consistency. After missing the start of the season through injury, he returned to action as a substitute last weekend against Blackburn Rovers.

It promises to be a busy final day of the window for Fulham, who are confident of completing the signing of Ruiz from FC Twente.

The 26-year-old flew to London last night from Holland to finalise personal terms and will undergo a medical at the club's Motspur Park training base on Wednesday.

Samaras snubs French clubs
Greek striker wants to provide the goals for Celtic this season

Celtic striker Georgios Samaras has rejected the chance to join Rennes after they enquired about his availability.

The 26-year-old had been identified by the French club as someone that could inject a killer instinct into their attack.

Rennes' general manager Pierre Dreossi has confirmed making an enquiry for Samaras, but revealed the Greece international does not want to leave Celtic.

"We were interested in Samaras and we called Celtic yesterday," Dreossi told STV.

"The transfer is not possible because the player doesn't want to leave Celtic for France. The matter is now closed."

Samaras, who is a Greek international, had also attracted interest from fellow French outfit St Etienne, but that deal stalled when they baulked at Celtic's £1million asking price.

Udinese capture Pereyra

Udinese's summer spending spree has continued with the signing of Uruguay international Maximiliano Pereyra from River Plate.

The 27-year-old right-back has penned a five-year deal with the Serie A outfit to join from the Argentinian giants.

The Friuli outfit have also acquired Italian goalkeeper Daniele Padelli on a season-long deal from Sampdoria and he becomes Udinese's 13th summer reinforcement.

Udinese will play in this season's group stage of the Europa League against Atletico Madrid, Rennes from France and Switzerland's FC Sion.

The Italian club were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers by Arsenal last week, going down 3-1 on aggregate.
