Owen Coyle is set to launch a £6million swoop for Benfica's Rodrigo and Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams.

Rodrigo spent last season on loan at Bolton and Coyle is prepared to offer Benfica £3.5millon for the Spanish youngster.

They will not pay Benfica's £6million asking price and believe they can strike a deal with the Portuguese club.

Williams has already stated he would be interested in a move to the Reebok and Coyle will offer £2.5million for the Australian international.

Arsenal willing to sell Fabregas

Arsenal are prepared to sell Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona if the two clubs can agree a price for the Spanish midfielder, BBC Sport has learned.

The Premier League club have rejected an initial bid for their captain but are now bracing themselves for an improved offer.

A senior Arsenal official said: "The offer was made formally in writing to our chief executive (Ivan Gazidis), and we said no straight away."

When asked if the club expected an improved offer this week, the source said: "Possibly yes, and if it's enough then I expect we'll have to sell."

Arsenal's stance appears to have shifted since last season when they rejected two offers from Barcelona for Fabregas, a former trainee at the Nou Camp, and stated they had no intention of selling him at any price.

Since then, American billionaire Stan Kroenke has taken control of the London club and now faces the first major decision of his reign.

Barcelona's president Sandro Rosell said last week that Fabregas was trying to pave the way for a return to the club he left as a 16-year-old, but that the heavily indebted Spanish giants would not pay more than £35m for him.

Barcelona's latest bid is reported to be around £27m, well short of Arsenal's valuation of more than £40m.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may still object to any sale, and Kroenke will rely on his manager's guidance when making a decision.

But Arsenal's board, consisting of Kroenke, Gazidis, chairman Peter Hill-Wood and directors Ken Friar, Sir Chips Keswick and Lord Harris of Peckham are aware of the difficulties of keeping the 24-year-old against his will.

His recent injury problems, combined with the emergence of Jack Wilshere, and the likely arrival of Argentinian Ricardo Alvarez, may also have influenced their thinking.

Fabregas is in Barcelona this week on a holiday, and his former club would like to complete a deal before he has to return to pre-season training in London next Tuesday ahead of a tour to the Far East.

Sources in Spain say that Barcelona have already begun talks with one of Europe's leading sports agencies over maximising the commercial opportunities of Fabregas' potential homecoming, suggesting a degree of confidence the deal can be finalised.

Tamas close to Lazio move
June 27, 2011

West Brom defender Gabriel Tamas is close to a move to Lazio, according to his agent.

Romania international Tamas, 27, started just one match in the last three months of the season and appears set to leave the Hawthorns.

"We are in negotiations and Lazio like the lad very much," Tamas' agent Ivan Reggiani told lalaziosiamonoi. "I would like to point out that we have never had contact with Cesena or Novara: the only Italian club he'll accept, apart from Milan, Inter and Juventus, is Lazio.

"He is fascinated by the chance to play alongside his fellow countryman, Stefan Radu. The Biancocelesti remain our priority and we've been in talks with them for over a month.

"We are at an advanced stage and Tamas is very likely to wear the Lazio shirt next season. The only doubts are around his behaviour.

"President Claudio Lotito and director Igli Tare are considering this aspect, but I can assure them Tamas is an exemplary professional. He's always the first to arrive at training and the last to leave."

Tamas, who joined West Brom on loan in January 2010 before making the move from Auxerre permanent, has three years left on his contract.

Chelsea offered Galatasaray's Arda Turan in exchange for Drogba plus £7m in cash

By Simon Jones

Last updated at 1:56 AM on 27th June 2011

Galatasaray will allow Arda Turan to join Chelsea for £7million plus Didier Drogba.

With Stamford Bridge target Turan rated at around £18m, the deal values Drogba at just £11m - a meagre offer likely to be rebuffed by Chelsea.

Left winger Turan, 24, is a Liverpool fan and has been linked with the Merseyside club and Tottenham in the past but Chelsea are very keen following the recommendation of his international coach, Turkey boss Guus Hiddink.

New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas could be persuaded to let Drogba, 33, leave for the right price, and the Ivory Coast international will wait to see if Chelsea splash out on another forward before making a decision on his future.

With Villas-Boas intent on bringing Colombia striker Falcao with him from Porto and Chelsea also showing interest in Udinese’s Alexis Sanchez, Drogba’s competition will not just be limited to £50m striker Fernando Torres and Nicolas Anelka.

It had been widely assumed Drogba would leave Stamford Bridge this summer with Real Madrid initially very keen, but Villas-Boas will not make any hasty decisions on the playing squad he has inherited.

However, assistant first-team coach Paul Clement, club doctor Bryan English and fitness coach Glen Driscoll were given notice on Saturday and are on gardening leave.

Clement joined Chelsea in 1994 as a part-time coach of the Under 15s. He had a six-year spell at Fulham but returned to Stamford Bridge in 2005 and rose up the ranks to work with the first-team under Guus Hiddink and then Ancelotti. He has served under all the managers of the Roman Abramovich era.

Chelsea’s other assistant first-team coach, Michael Emenalo, a favourite of the Russian, will stay at the club under Villas-Boas, who will bring in fitness coach Jose Mario Rocha and scout Daniel Sousa from Porto.

The new Chelsea manager will also look to appoint a direct replacement for Clement. Vitor Pereira, his successor at Porto, has already turned down the role.

Two others who could leave are Jose Boswinga, who is being tracked by Turkish side Besiktas, and Daniel Sturridge. The £16m-rated Under 21 international is wanted on loan by West Brom, Stoke and Bolton.

Blackburn in £13m bid for striker

Blackburn boss Steve Kean is ready to make a £13million bid for Freiburg's Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse.

Kean has earmarked Cisse after being forced to cross Mirko Vucinic and Emmanuel Adebayor off his list of striking targets and the African is understood to be keen on a move to Ewood Park.

Kean feels Cisse could supply the goals to help realise Venky's dream of bringing European football back to Ewood.

The Scot has up to £30million to spend following Phil Jones' £16million switch to Manchester United and is also keen on Zenit St Petersburg right back Alexander Anyukov and Monaco defender Nicolas N'Koulou.

Barca reject Chelsea's Villa bid

Barcelona today claimed they had rejected a £27million offer from Chelsea for David Villa.

The Nou Camp side briefed the Catalan media that Chelsea made a formal call to Barca sporting director Andobni Zubizarreta last week putting their bid on the table.

According to Barcelona, Chelsea's inquiry was immediately rebuffed, with the Stamford Bridge outfit informed that Villa's buy-out clause stands at a ridiculous £178m and that there was no point in any further negotiation.

Chelsea are definitely in the hunt for one Barcelona target, Udinese's Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez, who wants to move to the Champions League winners.

While Chelsea and Manchester City have outbid Barcelona for Sanchez, the South American has made it clear that he is not interested in moving to the Premier League.
