Transfer news: Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle wants Wolfsburg move



Andre Schurrle wants to leave Chelsea for Wolfsburg, according to Sky sources.

The German World Cup winner, who joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2013, has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga since the transfer window opened earlier this month.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said last week he expects to reach the end of the window with the same squad but admitted a departure is possible in the event of "a phenomenal offer and a player super keen of accepting the challenge".

Both those criteria could be fulfilled if Wolfsburg agree to pay the £22.5m-plus Chelsea want, and although there has been no formal offer to date we understand progress is being made.

Wolfsburg are currently second in the Bundesliga, and Schurrle sees the 2009 champions as Bayern Munich's likeliest challengers.

As many as five clubs are thought to be interested in the 24-year-old forward, who scored his fifth goal of the season at Swansea recently.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are understood to be negotiating a posible deal for Fiorentina attacker Juan Cuadrado.

The Colombia international has a £26.8m buyout clause and, according to sources, has made it clear he would like to move to Stamford Bridge.

SCHURRLE DENIAL

Wolfsburg have responded to rumours linking them with a move for Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle in this month's transfer window.

The Bundesliga outfit have denied they are set to sign the Germany international, with the club's sporting executive Klaus Allofs telling kicker "A very clear no" when asked if a deal was imminent.

And speaking to Bild, Allofs added: "There's nothing to [the speculation]. Even if we were interested, we'd certainly not be alone."

'WAITING GAME'

We understand there is progress on Chelsea wide man Andre Schurrle's potential move to Wolfsburg, with the Blues said to be demanding a fee in excess of £30m for the player, who wants to join the Bundesliga club.

However, so far no bids have been made and a source close to the Germany international told us that: "it's a waiting game".

Chelsea are in talks with Wolfsburg for the possible sale of Andre Schurrle in a move to sign Juan Cuadrado.

Borussia Dortmund have also expressed interest in bringing Schurrle back to the Bundesliga, the league where the midfielder made his top-flight debut with FSV Mainz before joining Bayer Leverkusen.

Wolfsburg, currently second in the Bundesliga, are frontrunners for the 24-year-old’s signature and while they would not confirm any pursuit of Schurrle, the club’s sporting director Klaus Allofs said they would never rule out signing a high quality player.

“We are always thinking about making the team stronger and improving the quality with outside players,” Allofs said.

“We have already clearly stated we are happy with our team.

“We have made many arguments as to why we should not change too much. Sometimes a possibility arises that you did not consider at the beginning: that is a general assessment, not necessarily a statement regarding Andre Schurrle.”

Schurrle’s departure from Stamford Bridge would be a catalyst for the arrival of much-touted Serie A winger Juan Cuadrado.

Cuadrado is reportedly interesting both Chelsea and Manchester United with Fiorentina thought to be unwilling to sell the Colombian for less than the ?35m buy-out fee stipulated in his contract.

Transfer news: Andre Schurrle nears Chelsea exit after agreeing personal terms with Wolfsburg

Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle is inching closer to a move back to the Bundesliga after agreeing to personal terms with Wolfsburg, according to Sky sources.

A fee has yet to be agreed for the player but the two sides remain in negotiations and Chelsea are expected to receive in excess of £20m for the 24-year-old.

Blues manager Jose Mourinho said last week he expects to reach the end of the window with the same squad but admitted a departure is possible in the event of "a phenomenal offer and a player super keen of accepting the challenge".

Wolfsburg are currently second in the Bundesliga and Schurrle would like to join the 2009 champions after growing frustrated with a lack of regular playing time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are close to agreeing a deal with Fiorentina for winger Juan Cuadrado who will be brought in as a replacement for Schurrle.

Cuadrado has a buyout clause of £26.8m but the cost of that deal will be largely financed by the sale of Schurrle.

Schurrle has started five games and made nine substitute appearances in Chelsea’s 22 league this season, scoring three goals in the process.

Schurrle's agent Ingo Haspel has said that the deal is poised to be completed with 'only a few discussions' still to be held.

It is thought he will cost Wolfsburg more than 30 million euros, which is a new club record.

Transfer news: Chelsea's Andre Schurrle seals move to Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Chelsea and Germany forward Andre Schurrle.

The 24-year-old has struggled for regular first-team football this season and has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Bundesliga side.

Schurrle has made a total of 22 appearances for Jose Mourinho's side this season, scoring five goals, but has made completed 90 minutes in the Premier League just once.

"It's a last-minute deal which we didn't expect to be a last-minute deal." said Sky Deutschland's David Marcour.

"We know a contract was in place a week ago. Wolfsburg were very relaxed and willing to pay 28m to 30m euros."

Wolfsburg are second in the Bundesliga and returned from their winter break with a stunning 4-1 win over leaders Bayern Munich at the weekend.

"Wolfsburg are really building up a squad to attack Bayern," added Marcour.

"They want to be the second force in the Bundesliga and this signing is a sign to watch out.

"It will definitely be the biggest transfer in Germany in this window."

The former Mainz player joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal in 2011.

He was part of Germany's World Cup-winning squad, scoring two goals in the 7-1 semi-final victory over Brazil and coming on for Christoph Kramer as a first-half substitute in the final against Argentina.

Schurrle's exit from Stamford Bridge is expected to pave the way for Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado to join the club.
