Dortmund seal the titleRobert Lewandowski (l.) put Dortmund firmly in control just before half timeBorussia Dortmund are the 2010-11 champions of Germany. The Ruhr district giants sealed their first Bundesliga title since 2002 with a 2-0 home victory over 1. FC Nürnberg. That, combined with Leverkusen's 2-0 defeat at Köln, leaves Jürgen Klopp's men an uncatchable eight points clear of their closest pursuers with just two matches remaining.
Barrios eases the tensionIt was Nürnberg who made the more confident start against an unusually hesitant home side, but Club keeper Rapahel Schäfer was the first to be tested, pushing away a powerful shot from Kevin Großkreutz in the 12th minute. Not long after that, Andreas Wolf squandered a good chance for the visitors, firing over the bar from seven metres out after latching onto a Mehmet Ekici corner.
Dieter Hecking's men continued to take the game to the league leaders and both Wolf and Philipp Wollscheid came within inches of making contact with a dangerous ball in from Ekici in the 21st minute. Half an hour in, with BVB still struggling to find their rhythm, they secured the vital breakthrough. Mario Götze fired in a low shot from outside the box after Nürnberg failed to properly clear their lines and Schäfer could only push the ball out as far as Lucas Barrios, who duly stabbed home his fourteenth goal of the campaign.
Good news from CologneHaving broken the deadlock, a visibly more relaxed Dortmund swiftly shifted up a gear and Barrios headed a good Lukasz Piszczek cross wide five minutes later. With a couple of minutes remaining in the first half they did then double their advantage when FCN's Javier Pinola misjudged a long ball from Mats Hummels and Robert Lewandowski took full advantage, running through and coolly lobbing Schäfer.
There were chances at both ends in the early stages of the second half, Christian Eigler firing the ball straight at home keeper Roman Weidenfeller from a tight angle in the 56th minute and Barrios just failing to reach a cross from Götze a minute later. Then, with not all too much happening out on the pitch, the stadium erupted in the 67th minute as the news came through that Leverkusen had gone behind at Köln.
Dortmund tied things up in the middle of the park and with Nürnberg unable to respond the game petered out as a contest. But with Leverkusen now two down, the celebrations kicked into full gear on the terraces of the Signal Iduna Park and a late cameo from BVB legend Dede just added further to the emotional party atmosphere as the referee blew for full time.
