Transfer News: Tottenham set to sign USA international DeAndre Yedlin from Seattle Sounders



Tottenham are set to sign USA international right-back DeAndre Yedlin, according to Sky sources.

The 21-year-old, currently playing for Seattle Sounders, has completed a medical and will sign an agreement to join Spurs following the end of the current MLS season.

The youngster is believed to have agreed a long-term deal at White Hart Lane and moves for a fee in the region of £2.5million.

Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer said: "He’s talking to a big club in Europe at the moment.

“We are working towards a potential transaction but we expect DeAndre to be back for our game on Sunday and for the remainder of the season.

“The MLS transfer window won’t impact this deal. This potentially will be a deal where he is not immediately transferred and then loaned back,

but constructed in a way that he will be here until the end of the year, or potentially longer.

“For him this is potentially a long-term move, not a short-term one.”

Yedlin impressed at the World Cup as USA reached the knock-out stages

and further caught the eye of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino in the 3-3 friendly draw against Seattle earlier this summer.

He has seven caps for the US under former Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann and has played 42 times in MLS for Seattle.

The MLS regular season finishes on October 20, when the Sounders face LA Galaxy, before a post-season play-off that concludes with the final in December.

Pochettino has been keen to strengthen defensive positions in the current window, having already signed Wales left-back Ben Davies from Swansea.

Sky Sports also understands Tottenham are continuing talks with Villarreal over Argentine centre-back Mateo Mussachio.

The two clubs opened discussions last week but the deal is complicated due to third-party ownership of the 23-year-old, who can also play at right-back.

Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign USA World Cup player DeAndre Yedlin from Seattle, BBC Sport understands.
The 21-year-old defender  has travelled to London after impressing Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.
It is possible Yedlin could remain with Seattle until the end of the MLS season in December, before joining his new club in the January transfer window.
Right-back Yedlin has won seven USA caps and made three substitute appearances in Brazil this summer.

Tottenham want DeAndre Yedlin to complete his move to the club in January, Sky sources understand.

Spurs announced in August that Yedlin had signed a four-year deal following an agreement with Seattle Sounders to transfer the right-back next summer for a fee believed to be £2.5m.

Tottenham had always intended to bring the USA international to the club immediately, but he was unable to secure a work permit in the summer having not played enough full international matches for his country.

However Yedlin, 21, has Latvian heritage and has been pursuing a passport from the country in the hope of speeding up his relocation to north London and, should he do so, Sky sources understand there would not be any opposition from his current club.

Transfer news: DeAndre Yedlin to join Tottenham in January after securing work permit

DeAndre Yedlin will join Tottenham in January after securing a work permit, according to Sky sources.

The North London club announced in August that Yedlin had agreed a four-year deal to move from Seattle Sounders for £2.5m, but he did not meet the requirements to work in the UK.

Yedlin, 21, subsequently pursued a Latvian passport due to heritage in his family but Sky Sports understands the player has been granted a Governing Body Endorsement and will not need the Latvian passport.

The player is currently enjoying an off-season break having helped the Sounders reach MLS’s play-offs. They lost the Western Conference final to eventual Cup winners LA Galaxy.

Yedin impressed at the World Cup as USA reached the knockout stages and further caught the eye of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino when the clubs contested a pre-season friendly in Seattle in July.

After his transfer to Spurs was completed, Yedlin spoke of his eagerness to join up with and learn from first-choice right-back Kyle Walker, who recently returned from injury.

He said: "I’m excited to learn from him and learn from the other full-backs, and from coach Mauricio Pochettino, who’s great with young players.

“I’m an attacking full-back and I felt when I signed that England will fit my playing style better. Tottenham was a good situation for me."
