Paraguayan defender Antolin Alcaraz granted work permit
Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm that Paraguay international Antolin Alcaraz has been granted a work permit and has now completed his move to the club on a three year deal.
A Wigan Athletic delegation of Manager Roberto Martinez, Chief Scout Kevin Reeves and Club Secretary Stuart Hayton, travelled to Wembley Stadium this morning, Thursday, for a special hearing with representatives from the FA, Premier League, PFA and other independent representatives from the world of football to state the club's case for signing the player.
The 6ft 1in Paraguayan centre-half signed prior to the World Cup after his contract had expired with Belgian side Club Brugge.
His performances in South Africa for Paraguay brought him huge attention, and manager Roberto Martinez is delighted to have finally netted his man.
"It's fantastic news that we can finally confirm the arrival of a defender who I feel was one of the very best at this summer's World Cup, this is a massive boost for the club and we are thrilled to welcome him on board."
Alcaraz is now cleared to start working with the rest of the squad and says cannot wait to get started.
"I am so happy that everything has gone through now," he says, "I want to thank Roberto and the club for all the hard work to get me to Wigan and now I just want to play football.
"The Premier League is a big challenge for every player and I can't wait to get started."
