Fernando Torres: AC Milan agree loan deal for Chelsea striker



Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is to join AC Milan on a two-year loan deal.
The Spaniard's move is subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical on Saturday.
The ex-Liverpool and Atletico Madrid forward joined Chelsea for a then-British record £50m in January 2011 but struggled to live up his price tag.
Torres scored just 20 goals in 110 league appearances during his spell at Stamford Bridge, but was part of the club's 2012 Champions League success.
Speaking just hours before the deal was announced, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said:
"If he wants to leave, it's because he wants to try a new life, a new club, probably a new league. To try to be happier than he was in the last couple of years."
Torres's prospects were hampered further by the arrival of fellow Spain international Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid this summer.
Costa and Didier Drogba remain Chelsea's attacking options.

Milan have been on the lookout for another forward to replace Mario Ballotelli, who left the club for Liverpool last week.
Speaking on Milan's official website  on Wednesday,
Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "Torres is certainly an important forward and we will see if we can sign him or another player."
Torres's British record transfer fee stood until Angel Di Maria moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United for £59.7m this week.
While Chelsea fans only saw glimpses of the form that brought Torres 65 goals in 102 league appearances for previous club Liverpool,
Mourinho spoke highly of him at Friday's news conference to preview Saturday's trip to Everton.
The Portuguese said he did not expect Torres to depart before the transfer window closed and was against a last-minute deal.
"If that happens in the last hour of the market, we are in trouble," said Mourinho. "In this moment we are doing nothing because our belief is that the market is closed for us.
"I've believed for a long time that the squad is closed. We have our squad. We like our squad. It's not the perfect one, because no squad is perfect, but it's one we like."

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has admitted to holding an interest in Chelsea duo Fernando Torres and Marco van Ginkel.

Torres’ future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain, despite claims from Jose Mourinho that he still has an important role to play.

With Diego Costa and Didier Drogba having been added to Chelsea’s attacking arsenal over the summer,

the Spain international could find himself some way down the pecking order.

Various clubs from across Europe are said to be mulling over an approach before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Serie A side Milan are among them, with the Rossoneri in the market for a new frontman after offloading Mario Balotelli to Liverpool.

Galliani has refused to confirm whether a formal move for Torres will be made, but he admits that the 30-year-old fits the profile of the type of player they are after.

He has also confirmed that an offer has been put to Chelsea for Holland international midfielder Van Ginkel.

Galliani told Milan Channel: “Our goal is to take a great striker.

“Fernando Torres? He is a great striker. Let’s see if he comes or someone else. We are actively working.

“Van Ginkel? We are confident. We have made our proposal to Chelsea and are now waiting on an answer. We hope we can get him.”

Fernando Torres' agent Antonio Sanz is reported to have told MilanNews that a deal to take his client to AC Milan is close.
He said after meeting with Rossoneri officials:

The meeting has been positive. Torres at Milan is a possibility. We will take time to reflect before giving an answer. Milan are a great side.

Transfer news: Fernando Torres talking terms with Milan as Chelsea agree to sell

Fernando Torres is discussing personal terms with AC Milan after Chelsea agreed to let the striker leave for Italy.

Chelsea are happy for Torres to depart either on loan or on a permanent deal .

There is no agreement yet between Milan and Torres, who is believed to be on £180,000 a week at Stamford Bridge, but talks resumed on Thursday and are going well.

And Chelsea's record £50million signing could now be on his way out of the club before Monday night's transfer deadline.

Milan also want Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel on loan, but Sky sources are indicating that deal is unlikely to happen at the moment.
