Official: Saviola joins Verona Former Barcelona and Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola has joined Serie A side Verona on a one-year contract. The Stadio Bentegodi side confirmed the deal on the final evening of business in the summer transfer window, bringing an end to the Argentine forward's spell at Olympiakos.
A product of River Plate, the attacker - who also enjoyed spells with Monaco, Sevilla, Real Madrid, Benfica and Malaga during a nomadic career -
will join up with former Barcelona team-mate Rafael Marquez, who moved to Verona earlier this summer. In total, Saviola has racked up 211 goals in 560 career games at club level and netted seven goals in 40 appearances during a six-year spell in the Argentina national team.
This is Saviola's first experience of Italian football, and he will join the likes of Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, Fredrik Sorensen, Panagiotis Tachtsidis, Davide Briviu and Nicolas Lopez as new signings at Verona.
