Hammers offer £17m for Carroll

Sky Sports sources understand West Ham United have made a £17million bid to sign Liverpool striker Andy Carroll.


The Premier League new-boys have ambitiously offered to pay an initial £2m loan fee before making a permanent deal next summer.


Liverpool are thought to be willing to listen to offers for the permanent sale of Carroll, who they signed from Newcastle in a record £35m deal under Kenny Dalglish in January 2011.


Brendan Rodgers has succeeded Dalglish this summer and is ready tosell in order to raise money for new signings, including his £15m-ratedformer Swansea colleague Joe Allen.


Carrollhas endured a difficult time at Anfield since becoming the mostexpensive British footballer in history and he now appears to be surplusto requirements.

Sam Allardyce's West Ham failed in an originalapproach to sign the England international solely on loan earlier thissummer but have returned with a permanent option.


Liverpool want closer to £20m as they aim to recoup as much aspossible on Carroll and his wages, which are reportedly close to£80,000-a-week, but the fee would represent a record deal for West Ham.


The most the Upton Park club, who won last season's Championshipplay-offs, have paid for a player in the past has been £9m for SavioNsereko in January 2009.


And West Ham co-owner David Sullivan's son, Jack Sullivan, has added to the rumours by saying on Twitter: "Dad is working on the biggest signing in the history of the club - twice as big as anything the club have done before!"


West Ham are also reportedly hoping the friendship between formerNewcastle team-mates Kevin Nolan, now West Ham captain, and Carroll canhelp influence any potential move.

Sky Sports sources understand Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is prepared to consider a loan move to another Premier League club playing in Europe this season.

Carroll's future at Anfield is uncertain following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as manager and former club Newcastle United have already failed with a bid.

The Magpies wanted to sign the England international on loan with a view to a permanent deal, but Rodgers has insisted there is 'no way' Carroll will be leaving on a temporary basis.

The 23-year-old, meanwhile, is understood to be unwilling to move on permanently, but is prepared to reluctantly consider a loan spell away from Liverpool.

West Ham United were understood to have made a £17million bid for the forward, who has scored just six goals in 42 league appearances since his £35million move to Merseyside in January 2011.

A switch to Upton Park would not appear to be on Carroll's agenda, however, with the player favouring European football if he does leave the Reds.

Newcastle would be able to meet that demand after last season's fifth-placed finish secured a spot in the Europa League, with Tottenham Hotspur also in the same competition.

Liverpool start their own Europa League campaign next week, while Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea will be playing in the UEFA Champions League.

West Ham United have agreed a £2m loan fee with Liverpool for Andy Carroll.
The deal for the England striker is with a view to apermanent transfer of £17m, providing West Ham United stay in thePremier League.

However, it is thought Carroll does not wish to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis.
TheReds turned down a bid from Newcastleto re-sign the player, having bought him from the Magpies for a club record fee of £35min January 2011.
The England international, who scored one goal for his country at Euro 2012, has struggled since his big-money move.
And with former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers now in charge at Anfield, Carroll became surplus to requirements after the signing of Italian strikerFabio Borini from Roma.
Despite Rodgers stating they would not consider a loan move for the player, the Northern Irishman has allowed Carroll, 23, to link-up with former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce at Upton Park.
Alan Pardew had suggested the Reds would need to accept a significant loss on the Gateshead man, and the club look like doing just that,providing the Hammers do not get relegated back to the Championship.
