Transfer News: Arsenal close on Gonzalo Higuain


Reports in Argentina claim Gonzalo Higuain'sfather - and agent - Jorge has finally been given permission by RealMadrid to open talks with Arsenal.


Arsenal are thought to havebeen locked in talks with Real for weeks about a deal for the Argentinainternational striker and sources claim that the two clubs have nowagreed a deal.


Real Madrid reportedly wanted ?25m (£21m) for the 25-year-old, withArsenal's opening offer believed to be ?20m but it appears a compromisehas now been reached, although it would still represent a club-recorddeal for the English club.


Higuain senior was quoted as telling Fox Sports Argentina: "We havebeen given permission by Real Madrid to negotiate with Arsenal."


"I will luckily be able to see my son in the Premier League soon."

'Fox Sports': Higuain close to sealing Arsenal switch
Reports in Argentina say the striker is to fly to London on Thursday or Friday. Higuain Snr has confirmed he has Madrid's permission to negotiate with Arsenal.
Gonzalo Higuain looks set to play at Arsenal next season, with ‘Fox Sports’ reporting that the North London club will pay Real Madrid a fee of 27 million euros for the striker. The figure, slightly more than the Premier League side’s initial offer of 24.5 million euros, falls below the 30 million that Madrid had been seeking for the Argentina international.Higuain’s father, Jorge, confirmed to ‘Fox Sports’: “We have been given permission by Real Madrid to negotiate with Arsenal. I will luckily be able to see my son in the Premier League soon.” Higuain Snr has agreed a contract that will see his son earn 117,000 euros per week, positioning the player alongside Theo Walcott and Thomas Vermaelen as the top earner at the Emirates.
According to reports in Argentina, Higuain is expected to fly to London on Thursday or Friday to put pen to paper on a deal at Arsenal. ‘El Pipa’ was also a target for Juventus, but the arrivals of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente at the Serie A club have seen the prospect of a move to Turin recede – and have left the ‘Gunners’ on their own in the chase for his signature.

Real turns down ?27 million offer for Higuaín


Any club that wants to count on Higuaín's services is going to haveto dig deep. The Madrid club has decided to take a hard line, andinsists that to date nobody has presented them with a formal writtenoffer in order to spark off any negotiations for the Argentine forward.


Every day more news appears that assures that Higuaín is leaving RealMadrid. The last one was yesterday (Thursday). The Latin American newschannel 'Fox Sport' announced an imminent agreement, for ?27 million,between Real and Arsenal, for the signing of 'Pipita'.


This supposed agreement was denied yesterday by Higuaín'srepresentatives, and also by Real. 'The White House' is firm in itsdecision to keep the player unless an important offer comes in. Theforward still has three whole seasons left to play out on his contract,so the club is in no hurry.


'Los Blancos' are waiting for a suitor for the Argentine who can walkthe walk and not just talk the talk. The ?27 million mentioned inyesterday's news does not impress, although Real has as yet not come outwith any figure to give other clubs an idea of what would.
