Liverpool warn Luis Suarez transfer bid from Real Madrid is doomed to failReds wary the Spanish giants will sell Benzema to Arsenal and use fee of around £40m to fund deadline-beating raid on themLiverpool are bracing themselves for Real Madrid to make a raid for Luis Suarez.
But the weary Anfield giants have again insisted they will not sell the striker.
Arsenal want Real forward Karim Benzema, and the £40million the Spanish giants would expect to receive for him will be used to fund a move for Suarez - a player they have long coveted.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said: “I’m sure there will be plenty of activity in these last number of days [of the transfer window]. It is what it is, we will deal with it like we have during the summer.”
Rodgers though, remains adamant that there simply isn’t enough time left for the Reds to secure a replacement for Suarez, so he cannot even consider allowing the Uruguayan to leave... despite the player’s desire to go.
If Real do make their long-anticipated bid, then there is no doubt Suarez will agitate strongly to go - and do everything in his powers to force Liverpool to sell him to a club he says he’s always dreamed of joining.
Even when seeming to accept owner John Henry’s decision he would not be sold to Arsenal, the 26-year-old swiftly issued a thinly veiled come and get me plea to Real.
Henry though, has stated bluntly that even if the Bernabeu side do come calling with a massive offer for Suarez, he will not accept... because there isn’t time to find a replacement of equal quality.
Rodgers backed up that statement on Thursday, when he argued that Real would now be wasting their time if they think they can make a deadline-dodging last-gasp move.
“If we lose Luis at this stage... there might have been a point a few months ago where there was time to do it, but with 11 days to go it would be difficult to replace him,” he said bluntly.
Liverpool are insistent there have been NO bids for Suarez since Arsenal's notorious offer of £40m plus one pound was rejected out of hand.
Asked directly if there had been any bids from any other clubs since Henry stated, unequivocally, a fortnight ago the striker would not be sold at any price, even to Real, Rodgers had a blunt answer: "No. None."
The club's position remains firm, and sources close to the American owners reiterated on Thursday night that even if Suarez attempts to force a move to Real, or any other club, he will be told there can be no deal in this transfer window.
